Mycena Alphitophora
''Mycena alphitophora'' is a species of agaric fungus in the family Mycenaceae. Its small, white, delicate fruit bodies are characterized by the powdery coatings on the surfaces of both the cap and stipe. The stipe base is not swollen or disk-like. The stipe surface is more hairy than '' Mycena adscendens''. Taxonomy The species was first described as ''Agaricus alphitophorus'' by Miles Joseph Berkeley in 1877, based on specimens collected in 1873 from the Devonshire Marsh, a peatland in Bermuda. Pier Andrea Saccardo transferred it to the genus ''Mycena'' in 1887. William Alphonso Murrill placed the species in '' Prunulus'' in 1916. Jakob Emanuel Lange's ''Mycena osmundicola'', published in 1914, is a synonym. P. Manimohan and K.M. Leelavathy defined the varieties ''distincta'' and ''globispora'' from southern India in 1989. William Murrill
William Alphonso Murrill (October 13, 1869 – December 25, 1957) was an American mycologist, known for his contributions to the knowledge of the Agaricales and Polyporaceae. In 1904, he became the assistant Curator at the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG). He, along with the NYBG, founded the journal ''Mycologia'' and was its first editor for 16 years. Murrill was known to travel extensively to describe the mycota of Europe and the Americas. He traveled along the East Coast, Pacific Coast, Mexico and the Caribbean. Although Murrill was a very influential person at the NYBG, having worked his way up to become assistant director in 1908, his rather eccentric personality caused problems with his job. He went on annual collecting trips to Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe, and South America, sometimes, without informing any of his colleagues prior. ''Index Fungorum'' is an international project to index all formal names ( scientific names) in the fungus kingdom. the project is based at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, one of three partners along with Landcare Research and the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Mycena Stylobates
''Mycena stylobates'', commonly known as the bulbous bonnet, is a species of inedible mushroom in the family Mycenaceae. Found in North America and Europe, it produces small whitish to gray fruit bodies with bell-shaped caps that are up to in diameter. The distinguishing characteristic of the mushroom is the fragile stipe, which is seated on a flat disk marked with distinct grooves, and fringed with a row of bristles. The mushrooms grow in small troops on leaves and other debris of deciduous and coniferous trees. The mushroom's spores are white in deposit, smooth, and ellipsoid-shaped with dimensions of 6–10 by 3.5–4.5 μm. In the development of the fruit body, the preliminary stipe and cap structures appear at the same time within the primordium, and hyphae originating from the stipe form a cover over the developing structures.
