''My Foolish Heart'' is a 1949 American romantic drama film directed by Mark Robson, starring Dana Andrews and Susan Hayward. It relates the story of a woman's reflections on the bad turns her life has taken. Adapted from J.D. Salinger's 1948 short story " Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut", this remains the only authorized film adaptation of Salinger's work; the filmmakers' infidelity to his story was responsible for precluding any other film versions of other Salinger works, including ''The Catcher in the Rye''. It follows a police detective in Amsterdam who tries to reconstruct the final days of Chet Baker before his death on 13 May 1988. The film was Van Eijk's feature film directorial debut. ''My Foolish Heart'' premiered at the 2018 Netherlands Film Festival. Plot Amsterdam 1988. Police detective Lucas tries to reconstruct the events that lead to the death of jazz musician Chet Baker. He meets with his final lover Sarah, loyal friend Simon and strange admirer Doctor Feelgood. He learns about Baker's tragic life as a problematic heroin user and lonely soul. Overview The music was composed by Victor Young, and the lyric was written by Ned Washington. The song was introduced by the singer Martha Mears in the 1949 My Foolish Heart (1949 film), film of the same name. The song failed to escape critics' general laceration of the film. ''My Foolish Heart'' is a solo album by American guitarist Ralph Towner recorded in 2016 and released on the ECM label. Production Towner had long wanted to record the jazz standard, " My Foolish Heart", stating in an interview with National Public Radio "It's one of the first tunes I'd heard that combination of Bill Evans, Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian play. So that tune had a lot of meaning for me and was very important for me starting out as a jazz musician." The composition "Blues As In Bley" is dedicated to the jazz pianist Paul Bley who died a month before the recordings.
