My Fair Lady (1958 TV Series)
''My Fair Lady'' was an Australian television series which aired from 1958 through to the Sixties on multiple television stations. The show featured a female compere and a male fashion critic. There would be three or four housewives as contestants and the critic would analyse their looks, commenting on clothes and figure. One would be chosen as My Fair Lady, would be rewarded with a makeover and a wardrobe and would reappear the next week to present her new look. In Melbourne it aired on HSV-7 and starred Charles Bush (from 1958-62) as the critic with multiple comperes during the years, starting with Bambi Smith and including June Finlayson, Vikki Hammond, and Gretta Miers. It finished up in May 1962. The Adelaide version aired on ADS-7 and also featured Bush and the comperes included Maree Tomasetti, Heather Duncan, Mary McMahon and Yvonne Woods. HSV (TV Station)
HSV is a television station in Melbourne, Australia. It is part of the Seven Network, one of the three main commercial television networks in Australia, its first and oldest station. It launched in time for the 1956 Summer Olympic Games in Melbourne. HSV-7 is the home of AFL coverage. The HSV building (also known as 'Broadcast Centre Melbourne') was the network's operations hub, where the Master Control Room was located, controlling all metropolitan and regional feeds. Programming lineup, advertisement output, feed switching, time zone monitoring and national transmission output was previously delivered there. ADS is an Australian television station based in Adelaide, South Australia. It is owned and operated by Paramount Networks UK & Australia through their Australian holdings Network 10. History ADS-10 began as ''ADS-7'' on 24 October 1959. In the late 1980s ADS-7 was bought by media entrepreneur Kerry Stokes, who also owned CTC-7 in Canberra. In 1987, Stokes planned to buy the Seven Network from John Fairfax which would have seen ADS-7 Adelaide and CTC-7 Canberra align with ATN-7 Sydney and HSV-7 Melbourne. Stokes offered $100 million more than rival Christopher Skase for Seven, but was ultimately unsuccessful. TCN is the flagship television station of the Nine Network in Australia. The station is currently located at 1 Denison Street, North Sydney. The licence, issued to a company named Television Corporation Ltd headed by Sir Frank Packer, was one of the first four licences (two in Sydney, two in Melbourne) to be issued for commercial television stations in Australia. The Jean Bowring Show
''The Jean Bowring Show'' is an Australian television cooking show that aired on Melbourne station HSV-7 from 1957 to 1960. At one point it aired in a 15-minute timeslot, but later became a 30-minute series. The Jean Bowring show is notable as an early attempt by Australian television at producing programming aimed at women, along with series like HSV-7's ''Interior Decoration'' (with Joyce Turner) and ABC's ''Women's World'' (with Joy Wren). It is not known if any kinescope recordings exist of the series. During the 1950s/1960s in Australia, daytime series were rarely considered worth keeping after broadcast. ''Four Star Playhouse'' is an American anthology series that ran from 1952 to 1956. Four Star Playhouse was owned by Four Star International. Its episodes ranged anywhere from surreal mysteries, such as "The Man on the Train", to light comedies, such as "The Lost Silk Hat". The original premise was that Charles Boyer, Ida Lupino, David Niven, and Dick Powell would take turns starring in episodes. However, several other performers took the lead from time to time, including Ronald Colman and Joan Fontaine. The show was sponsored in its first bi-weekly season by The Singer Company. Bristol-Myers became an alternate sponsor when it became a weekly series in the fall of 1953 (both sponsors' names alternated as part of the show's title in its initial broadcasts).
