Roman Musil is a Paralympian athlete from the Czech Republic competing mainly in category F33 throwing events. Musil has competed in three Paralympics over two sports. In 2000 he won two gold and a silver in the athletics class F33 Javelin (gold), shot put (gold), and discus (silver) as well as a gold and bronze in the cycling class CP division 2 Mixed Tricycle 5.4 km time Trial (gold) and Mixed Tricycle 1.9 km Time Trial. His unfinished novel, ''The Man Without Qualities'' (german: link=no, Der Mann ohne Eigenschaften), is generally considered to be one of the most important and influential modernist novels. Family Musil was born in Klagenfurt, Carinthia, the son of engineer Alfred ''Edler'' Musil (1846, Timișoara – 1924) and his wife Hermine Bergauer (1853, Linz – 1924). Alois Musil (30 June 1868 – 12 April 1944) was a Czech theologian, orientalist, explorer and bilingual Czech and German writer. Biography Musil was the oldest son born in 1868 into an poor farming family in Moravia (then Cisleithanian part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, today Czech Republic). His birthplace of Rychtářov was in an area surrounded by German-speakers, allowing him and his brothers to learn to read and write both German and Czech. He was a second cousin of Robert Musil, an Austrian writer. In the years 1887–1891 he studied Roman Catholic theology at the University of Olomouc, was consecrated as a priest in 1891 and received a doctorate in theology in 1895. František Musil (born December 17, 1964), more commonly known in North America as Frank Musil, is a Czech former professional ice hockey player who spent several seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Minnesota North Stars, Calgary Flames, Ottawa Senators, and Edmonton Oilers. Musil is currently an amateur scout for the Sabres and assistant coach for the Czech national ice hockey team.
