The Musica Sacra choir was founded in 2002 and sings at Warsaw's St. Florian's Cathedral. Acclaimed Polish composer Paweł Łukaszewski directs the choir (Wordsworth 2013, p 50). The choir has recorded 8 CDs and has been nominated several times for Poland's most prestigious musical award, the Fryderyk Award. The choir's most recent award was in 2016 for Musica Caelestis. Paweł Łukaszewski
Paweł Łukaszewski (born 19 September 1968) is a Polish composer of choral music. He has won seven prestigious Fryderyk Awards. According to David Wordsworth, Łukaszewski is the best-known Polish composer of his generation in and out of Poland "by far" (Wordsworth 2013, p. 50). Biography Paweł Łukaszewski was born on September 19, 1968, in Częstochowa. His father was the composer Wojciech Łukaszewski. He is the brother of the composer Marcin Łukaszewski. Regarding Łukaszewski's musical style, acclaimed Polish music scholar Adrian Thomas states, "Paweł Łukaszewski (b. 1968) sbest known for his resolutely anti-modern sacred choral music."Adrian Thomas. Fryderyk Award
The Fryderyk is the annual award in Polish music. Its name refers to the original Polish spelling variant of Polish composer Frédéric Chopin's first name. Its status in the Polish public can be compared to the American Grammy and the UK's BRIT Award. Officially created in 1994 and presented for the first time in 1995, the award was initially conferred by the Polish Society of the Phonographic Industry (''Związek Producentów Audio-Video'', ZPAV). Since 1999, nominees and winners have been selected by a body called Phonographic Academy (''Akademia Fonograficzna'') which by now consists of nearly 1000 artists, journalists and music industry professionals. Voting is anonymous and takes place in two rounds: In the first round, all Academy members can nominate five artists in each category, in the second round, members can vote for one candidate in each category from the most successful nominees established in the first round.
