Mushroom Jazz
''Mushroom Jazz'' is a series of musical compilations by DJ Mark Farina. Originating in 1992 these were released on cassette tape, then since 1996 have been commercial CD and vinyl releases. Farina combines elements of downtempo, hip hop, jazz and R&B, French, Latin, beatmatching and mixing songs together. As with Farina's house mixes, the ''Mushroom Jazz'' series incorporates transitional effects (such as a high-pass filter) and a generally dry reverb tone. Originally launched as a cassette series, the Mushroom Jazz tapes grew from the first Chicago run of 50 copies each on to the next stage, where 500 copies of several volumes were easily distributed and sought after. As the acid jazz boom began, he perfected his sound and fused the newest tracks from the West Coast's jazzy, organic producers with the more urban sounds he had championed in Chicago. Mark Farina
Mark Farina (born March 25, 1969 in Chicago, Illinois, USA) is an American disc jockey and musician, known for his Chicago house, acid jazz and downtempo works. His notable releases include ''Mood'' (KMS Records, 1989) and the ''Mushroom Jazz'' series (Om Records, 1996–2011), and recently known also from house compilations '' El Divinio''. He is primarily identified with the house music scene based in San Francisco, California. Farina currently resides in Dallas, Texas. Biography Shortly after Farina became friends with Derrick Carter in 1988 at a record store in Chicago, he developed an interest in house music. Farina experimented with a deeper style, dropping De La Soul, disco classics and other styles not being played in the main rooms of nightclubs. Paul Leighton Johnson (January 11, 1971 – August 4, 2021) was an American house disc jockey and producer. Blue Boy (also styled The Blue Boy) is a pseudonym for the British DJ Alexis 'Lex' Blackmore. He is best known for " Remember Me", which peaked at No. 8 in the UK in 1997. Blackmore first worked as a DJ in Glasgow and London, touring with the British electronic group the Shamen in 1991.
