Museum Of African Art, Serbia
The Museum of African Art ( sr, italic=yes, Музеј Афричке Уметности / Muzej Afričke Umetnosti) is a museum located in the urban neighborhood of Senjak, Belgrade, the capital city of Serbia. History The museum was founded in 1977 and represents the only museum in the country dedicated to the arts and culture of Africa. Most of its collection comes from the West Africa. The museum specializes in African art, and predominantly features African masks. It was established from the private collection of Croatian diplomat in service of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Zdravko Pečar (born in Međimurje), and was a result of his long stay as Ambassador to Africa. The collection contains many rare and valuable pieces from the regions in which he travelled. The collection was bequeathed to the City of Belgrade in 1974 by the ambassador. Museum Of Modern Art (Ljubljana)
The Museum of Modern Art ( sl, Moderna galerija) in Ljubljana, Slovenia, is the central museum and gallery of the Slovenian art works from the 20th and 21st centuries. History Established by decree of the government of the People's Republic of Slovenia on 30 December 1947, and officially opened to the public on 3 January 1948, it houses a permanent collection of 21st century Slovenian art as well as art from foreign artists. Its central building was designed by Edvard Ravnikar and was built in 1948. In addition, it acts as a place for: debate, documentation, education, research and study, increasing the presence of art for the wider public. The Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, commonly referred to as SFR Yugoslavia or simply as Yugoslavia, was a country in Central and Southeast Europe. During the Cold War period former Southeast Europe, Southeast European country of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia established and maintained significant political, cultural and economic exchanges and relations with Decolonization of Africa, newly independent African states. Zdravko Pečar (born January 12, 1950 in Maribor, Maribor, Slovenia, Yugoslavia) is a retired Yugoslav discus thrower. He competed for his home country in the 1972 Olympics. While competing for Brigham Young University he won the 1974 NCAA Championships. Croats
The Croats (; hr, Hrvati ) are a South Slavic ethnic group who share a common Croatian ancestry, culture, history and language. They are also a recognized minority in a number of neighboring countries, namely Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia. Senjak
Senjak ( sr-cyrl, Сењак, ) is an urban neighborhood of Belgrade, the capital city of Serbia. Located in Savski Venac, one of the three municipalities that constitute the very center of the city, it is an affluent neighborhood containing embassies, diplomatic residences, and mansions. Senjak is generally considered one of the wealthiest parts of Belgrade. History and etymology Before it became interesting to Belgrade's upper classes, Senjak was an excellent natural lookout. As many farmers kept their hay throughout the entire city, fires were quite frequent, so it was ordered for hay to be collected and kept in one place, and the area of modern Senjak was chosen, apparently also getting its name in the process (from the word ''seno'', Serbian for hay). Traditional African masks play an important role in certain traditional African rituals and ceremonies. Masks serve an important role in rituals or ceremonies with varied purposes like ensuring a good harvest, addressing tribal needs in times of peace or war, or conveying spiritual presences in initiation rituals or burial ceremonies. Some masks represent the spirits of deceased ancestors. Others symbolize totem animals, creatures important to a certain family or group.
