Murdo is a List of cities in South Dakota, city in and county seat of Jones County, South Dakota, Jones County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 475 at the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census. History Murdo was founded in about 1907 by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. As about halfway between Rapid City, South Dakota, Rapid City and Mitchell, South Dakota, Mitchell, Murdo was home to a roundhouse and a railyard, and a passenger station which served trains bound for Rapid City and Mitchell, until the discontinuation of the Sioux (train), Sioux passenger train. This is a list of Murdo mountains in Scotland by height. Lists of mountains and hills in the British Isles#Murdos, Murdos are defined as Scottish mountains over in height, above the general threshold to be called a Lists of mountains and hills in the British Isles#Elevation, "mountain" in the British Isles, and with a prominence over ; a mix of imperial measures, imperial and metric system, metric thresholds. British Isles cartographer Alan Dawson, first compiled the list of Murdos in 1995 to provide an objective and quantitative alternative to the more qualitative Scottish Mountaineering Club ("SMC") definition of a Lists of mountains and hills in the British Isles#Munros, Munro.
