Murder By Invitation
''Murder by Invitation'' is a 1941 American mystery film directed by Phil Rosen and starring Wallace Ford. Plot The relatives of Cassandra "Cassie" Denham, an old unmarried lady living in New York who is reputedly good for three million dollars, try to make a judge declare her unable to take care of herself financially. The attempt fails, and in charge of handing in the petition is Cassie's nephew Garson Denham, a lawyer. Instead he summons a newspaper reporter, Bob White (Wallace Ford), and his girlfriend, Nora O'Brien (Marian Marsh), and tells them he has been invited to stay a week at Cassie's estate up in the mountains. The invitation states that any relative not arriving at the specified time will be excluded from the will. Garson believes his aunt is mentally unsound and plans to kill them all during the stay. Phil Rosen
Philip E. Rosen (May 8, 1888 – October 22, 1951) was an American film director and cinematographer. He directed more than 140 films between 1915 and 1949. He was born in Marienburg, German Empire (now, Malbork, Poland), grew up in Machias, Maine, and died in Hollywood, California of a heart attack. He was one of the founders of the American Society of Cinematographers. Rosen was married to model and actress Joyzelle Joyner. Dave O'Brien (actor)
Dave O'Brien (born David Poole Fronabarger, May 31, 1912 – November 8, 1969) was an American film actor, director, and writer. Life and career Born in Big Spring, Texas, O'Brien started his film career performing in choruses and working as a stunt double before gradually winning larger roles, mostly in B pictures. O'Brien was best known to movie audiences in the 1940s as the hero of the famous Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer comedy short film series ''Pete Smith Specialties'' narrated by Pete Smith. O'Brien wrote and directed many of these subjects under the name David Barclay. O'Brien also had a small dancing part with Bebe Daniels in the Busby Berkeley musical '' 42nd Street'' (1933). Kay Deslys (28 September 1899, in London – 15 August 1974 in West Covina, California) was an English comedy actress, based in the United States from the 1920s on. Born as Kathleen Herbert in London, one of her earliest roles was in Charlie Chaplin's celebrated feature ''The Gold Rush''; she later appeared in several comedies at the Hal Roach Studios, including several early Laurel and Hardy comedies. John James is an American actor and producer best known to television audiences for playing the character of Jeff Colby in both the prime-time soap opera ''Dynasty'' and its spin-off series ''The Colbys'' throughout the 1980s.
