Municipality Of Bled
The Municipality of Bled (; sl, Občina Bled) is a municipality in northwestern Slovenia in the Upper Carniola region. The seat of the municipality is the town of Bled, located on the shores of Lake Bled. The area is a popular tourist destination. The Municipality of Bled was established in October 1994. It was greatly reduced in size with the establishment of the Municipality of Gorje in June 2006, because it has retained only 38% of its previous territory. Municipality Of Žirovnica
The Municipality of Žirovnica (; sl, Občina Žirovnica) is a municipality in Slovenia. The seat of the municipality is the village of Breznica. In the Završnica Valley, behind the Reber range that overlooks the villages, the first public hydroelectric plant in Slovenia was built in 1914. In 1952, after building a 60 m dam (the highest dam in Slovenia to date) in the Kavčke Gorge, a second hydroelectric plant opened in nearby Moste. This was the first hydroelectric plant to operate on the Sava River. Geography It is located in the traditional Upper Carniola region, on the southern slope of the Karawanks mountain range, along the border with Austria ( Carinthia). Teplice
Teplice () (until 1948 Teplice-Šanov; german: Teplitz-Schönau or ''Teplitz'') is a city in the Ústí nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 49,000 inhabitants. It is the second largest Czech spa town, after Karlovy Vary. The historic city centre is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument zone. Julius Johannes Ludovicus Ritter von Payer (2 September 1841, – 29 August 1915), ennobled Ritter von Payer in 1876, was an officer of the Austro-Hungarian Army, mountaineer, arctic explorer, cartographer, painter, and professor at the Theresian Military Academy. He is chiefly known for the Austro-Hungarian North Pole expedition in 1872–74 and the discovery of Franz Josef Land. Early life and military career Born in Schönau, Bohemia, his father Franz Anton Rudolf Payer was a retired officer of the Austrian Uhlans who died when Julius was only fourteen. Špela Pretnar (born 5 March 1973) is a Slovenian former alpine skiing, alpine skier. In her career, Pretnar won six races in Alpine Skiing World Cup races, with 13 podiums altogether. In the 2000 Alpine Skiing World Cup, 1999–2000 season, she won a small crystal globe in Slalom skiing, slalom. Pretnar was named Slovenian Sportsman of the year, Slovenian sportswoman of the year in 2000. Pretnar represented Slovenia at the 2002 Winter Olympics. Sara Isaković
Sara Isaković (born 9 June 1988) is a retired Slovenian swimmer. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, aged 20, she placed 2nd in the 200 m freestyle with the time of 1:54.97, becoming the second woman ever (behind Federica Pellegrini) to break the 1 min 55 sec mark. It is still, to this day, the only swimming Olympic medal won for Slovenia. Isaković competed for Slovenia at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Iztok Čop
Iztok Čop (born 17 June 1972) is a Slovenian rower and Olympic gold medalist. Biography Čop was born in Kranj, SR Slovenia, and started rowing at the age of 13 in Bled, where Slovenia's best rowing club is located. Originally rowing in the coxless pairs, Čop finished second in the World Championships in 1991, and won Bronze at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 with Denis Žvegelj (the first Olympic medal for independent Slovenia). He then switched to the single scull, winning gold at the 1995 World Championship, but came fourth at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. He then changed to the men's double sculls with Luka Špik, and won the 1999 World Championships, and gold at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, which was the first Olympic gold medal for Slovenia since its independence. Zasip
Zasip (; german: Asp) is a village in the Municipality of Bled in the Upper Carniola region of northwestern Slovenia. Name Zasip was attested in written sources in 1075–90 as ''Zazib''. The name is derived from the prepositional phrase ''*za sipi'' 'behind the upper part of a scree slope', thus referring to the local geographical feature. In the local dialect, the settlement is known as ''Zâsp''. Geography The village is located about north of the Bled town centre and Lake Bled, below the southern slopes of Hom Hill. History When the settlement was first mentioned in a 1075 deed, the area belonged to the Imperial March of Carniola. A parish was founded here in 1296. Today, there are three churches in the village.
