Veracruz is a state in central eastern Mexico that is divided into 212 municipalities. According to the 2020 Mexican Census, it is the fourth most populated state with inhabitants and the 11th largest by land area spanning . Municipalities in Veracruz are administratively autonomous of the state according to the 115th article of the 1917 Constitution of Mexico. Every four years, citizens elect a municipal president (Spanish: ''presidente municipal'') by a plurality voting system who heads a concurrently elected municipal council (''ayuntamiento'') responsible for providing all the public services for their constituents. The municipal council consists of a variable number of trustees and councillors (''regidores y síndicos''). Acajete Municipality, Veracruz
Acajete Municipality is a municipality located in the central zone in the state of Veracruz, about 20 km from state capital Xalapa. It has a surface of 90.48 km2. It is located at . In the middle of 1586 this village was formed, on one of the adjoining old men of Tlacolulan's dominion. The decree N ° 64 of November 3, 1893, extinguished the municipality of La Hoya, annexing its territory to San Salvador Acajete. On November 5, 1932, the municipal head-board San Salvador Acajete changes the name to Acajete. Geographic limits Acajete Municipality is delimited to the north by Tlacolulan and Las Vigas de Ramírez to the east by Rafael Lucio, to the south by Tlalnelhuayocan and to the west by Perote. Papantla
Papantla () is a city and municipality located in the north of the state of Veracruz, Mexico, in the Sierra Papanteca range and on the Gulf of Mexico. The city was founded in the 13th century by the Totonacs and has dominated the Totonacapan region of the state since then. This is the home of vanilla, which is native to this region, the Danza de los Voladores and the El Tajín archeological site, which was named a World Heritage Site. Papantla still has strong communities of Totonacs who maintain the culture and language. The city contains a number of large scale murals and sculptures done by native artist Teodoro Cano García, which honor the Totonac culture. San Andrés Tuxtla is a city and municipality in the south of the Mexican state of Veracruz. The city is the largest in the Los Tuxtlas region. It was founded after an eruption of the San Martín Volcano pushed people into this valley during the early colonial period. Poza Rica
Poza Rica (), formally: Poza Rica de Hidalgo is a city and its surrounding municipality in the Mexican state of Veracruz. Its name means "rich well/pond". It is often thought that the name came to be because it was a place known for its abundance of oil. In reality, before oil was discovered, there existed a pond rich in fish, which gave origin to the city’s name. In the last century oil was discovered in the area. It has since been almost completely extracted. This has resulted in the decline of oil well exploration and drilling activities, though there are still many oil facilities. Córdoba, known officially as Heroica Córdoba, is a city and the seat of the municipality of the same name in the Mexican state of Veracruz. It was founded in 1618. The city is composed of 15 barrios (neighborhoods) bounded to the north by Ixhuatlán del Café and Tomatlán, and to the south by Amatlán de los Reyes and Naranjal. Coatzacoalcos () is a major port city in the southern part of the Mexican state of Veracruz, mostly on the western side of the Coatzacoalcos River estuary, on the Bay of Campeche, on the southern Gulf of Mexico coast. San Rafael, Veracruz
San Rafael Municipality is a municipality located in northern Veracruz state in central Mexico. The municipal seat is San Rafael, Veracruz. The area was home to a French immigrant community starting in the early 19th century. French surnames and people with light skin can still be found, although the French language has mostly disappeared. The municipal seat has a museum dedicated to this heritage. The town The town of San Rafael was founded as part of a colonization effort by French immigrants in the first half of the 19th century. A ''presidente municipal'' (English: "municipal president") is the chief of government of municipios in Mexico. This title was also used in the Philippines under the Spanish and American colonization; it is comparable to a mayor of the town or city.
