Municipal Art Gallery Of Ioannina
The Municipal Art Gallery of Ioannina ( el, Δημοτική Πινακοθήκη Ιωαννίνων) is an art museum in Ioannina, Greece that has been open in its current building since 2000. The collection of over 500 items ranges from classical to modern paintings and sculptures. Location Since 2000 the gallery has been housed in the Pyrsinella Mansion at 1 Korai Street & 28 October Street in Ioannina. This is a neoclassical building dating to around 1890. Neoclassical elements include the lintels, balcony corbels and window frames. It was built by the engineer Vergoti for the bibliophile and art lover Basil Pyrsinella, who was mayor of the town for many years in the 1920s and 1930s. Demetrios Galanis ( el, Δημήτριος Γαλάνης, 17 May 1879, Athens – 20 March 1966, Paris) was an early twentieth-century Greece, Greek artist and friend of Picasso. In 1920, the year he completed his ''Seated Nude'' (private collection), he exhibited alongside such major figures of modern art as Matisse and Braque, while from 1921 on he also exhibited alongside Juan Gris, Raoul Dufy, Dufy, Chagall, and Picasso. By the early 1920s Galanis was famous in France and preparing for shows in Brussels, London, and New York. In 1920–21 he frequently exhibited in Paris and in 1922 his first one-man exhibition received the enthusiastic critical response that established his reputation. Vassileios Chatzis
Vasileios Hatzis or Vassileios Chatzis ( el, Βασίλειος Χατζής, 1870 – 1915) was a Greek painter who was best known for his seascapes. Life Vasileios Hatzis was born in 1870 in Kastoria. His family was involved in shipping, and he spent his childhood in Patras. From 1886 to 1893 he studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Nikiforos Lytras and Konstantinos Volanakis. During the Balkan Wars of 1912–13 the government assigned him to the navy, where he portrayed action scenes of the Greek fleet. He died in Athens in 1915. Work Hatzis is primarily known for his seascapes, but also painted landscapes and genre scenes from the life of farmers and fishermen. His work includes both academic and en plein air styles. Athanase Apartis ( el, Αθανάσιος Απάρτης, 24 October 1899 – 1 April 1972) was a Greek sculptor. His busts of famous people and monumental works stand in many public places in Greece. Life Athanase Apartis was born on 24 October 1899 in Smyrna, Asia Minor, son of a tailor who had six children. He often worked in the studio of Papazian, an Armenian sculptor who had studied in Rome and Venice. He was given lessons by the painter Vasilis Ithakisios. He moved to Paris in 1919, and began to study at the Académie Julian. Theodoros Papagiannis
Theodoros Papagiannis ( el, Θεόδωρος Παπαγιάννης, born 1942) is a Greek sculptor. His work is held by many collections and stands in public places in Greece and elsewhere, including his sculpture "The Runners" at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago. Life Theodoros Papagiannis was born in 1942 in Elliniko, Ioannina, Greece. He obtained a scholarship that let him study under Yannis Pappas from 1961 to 1966 at the Athens School of Fine Arts. In 1967 he was given a state scholarship to study Ancient Greek Art in Greece, Egypt, Turkey, Cyprus, Sicily and Southern Italy. Michael Tombros
Michael Tombros (or Michalis Tombros, el, Μιχάλης Τόμπρος, 12 November 1889 – 28 May 1974) was a Greek sculptor who was influential in introducing avant-garde styles into Greece. Life Michael Tombros was born in Athens in 1889, son of a marble sculptor from Korthio, Andros island. He attended the Athens School of Fine Arts from 1903 to 1909. He studied sculpture with Georgios Vroutos and Lazaros Sochos, and drawing with Dimitrios Geraniotis, Alexandros Kalloudis and Georgios Jakobides. He also worked at the marble sculpture workshop of N.M. Perakis. In 1910 he set up his own studio in Athens. Vaso Katraki
Vaso Katraki ( el, Βάσω Κατράκη, 5 July 1914 – 27 December 1988) was a Greek painter and engraver. She was known for her passionate depictions of the sufferings of the Greek people during and after World War II. In 1967 she was exiled to a barren island by the military junta on the day that it took power. She started with wood engraving, then developed an original and very unusual technique of sandstone engraving. Aglaia Papa
Aglaia Papa ( el, Αγλαΐα Παπά, 1904–84) was a Greek painter. Life Aglaia Papa was born in Corfu in 1904. Her family lived in Janicat, then in the Ottoman Empire, now in Albania. Her older sister Katina Papa (1903–57) would become a well-known author. When she was a teenager the Papa family fled persecution by Turks and Albanians in the region and settled in Corfu. She attended courses in painting in Corfu with Marco Zavitzianos and Konstantinos Parthenis. She studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Nikolaos Lytras, Konstantinos Parthenis and Thomas Thomopoulos. Alekos Fassianos
Alekos Fassianos ( el, Αλέκος Φασιανός, 13 December 1935 – 16 January 2022) was a Greek painter. Life and career Fassianos was born in Athens in 1935. After graduating from the Athens School of Fine Arts, he moved to Paris, France, in 1960, to study lithography at the Paris National School of Arts, where he met several artists and writers. Fassianos used to design the stage decorations for major classic and modern productions. Panayiotis Tetsis (Greek: Παναγιώτης Τέτσης; 1925 – 5 March 2016) was a Greek painter. Tetsis was an exponent of the post-impressionistic seascape tradition. George Bouzianis
George Bouzianis ( el, Γιώργος Μπουζιάνης; german: Jorgos Busianis; November 8, 1885 – October 23, 1959) was a major Greece, Greek expressionist painter. Biography He studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts with teachers such as Nikiphoros Lytras and Konstantinos Volanakis, Georgios Roilos and Dimitrios Geraniotis. In 1907 he moved to Munich to continue his art studies with Otto Seitz. In 1910 he moved to Berlin, where he was taught from Max Liebermann.
