Mukta Tilak
Mukta Tilak (17 August 1965 – 22 December 2022) was an Indian politician. She was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from Kasba Peth (Vidhan Sabha constituency), Kasba Peth in the 2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election, 2019 state elections as a member of Bharatiya Janata Party. Tilak was elected Mayor of Pune for the period 2017 to 2019. Tilak was the first member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, BJP to hold the Mayor's position. She died due to cancer in Pune on 22nd December 2022. Personal life and death Mukta Tilak was the daughter-in-law (niece-in-law) of Jayant Shridhar Tilak, Jayantrao Tilak, who was Bal Gangadhar Tilak's grandson. Her husband Shailesh Tilak is also associated with BJP. Tilak died of cancer on 22 December 2022, at the age of 57. Maharashtra Legislative Assembly
The Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha or the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the legislature of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is situated in the Nariman Point area of South Mumbai in the capital Mumbai. Presently, 288 members of the Legislative Assembly are directly elected from the single-seat constituencies. The members of the upper house, the Maharashtra Vidhan Parishad (the legislative council) are indirectly elected through an electoral college. Sessions The budget session and the monsoon session are convened in Mumbai whereas the winter session is convened in the auxiliary capital Nagpur. Bal Gangadhar Tilak (; born Keshav Gangadhar Tilak (pronunciation: eʃəʋ ɡəŋɡaːd̪ʱəɾ ʈiɭək; 23 July 1856 – 1 August 1920), endeared as Lokmanya (IAST: ''Lokmānya''), was an Indian nationalist, teacher, and an independence activist. Jayant Shridhar Tilak
Jayant Shridhar Tilak (12 October 1921 – 23 April 2001), generally referred to as Jayant-rao Tilak, was a politician from Indian National Congress and was a member of the Parliament of India representing Maharashtra in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. He was also a Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. He was the chairman of the house for 16 years. Early life and family Jayantrao Tilak was a grandson of the Indian independence leader, Lokmanya Tilak. Jayantrao's father, Shridhar Balwant Tilak was a campaigner for social reforms in India. 2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Election
The 2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election was held on 21 October 2019 to elect all 288 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. After a 61.4% turnout in the election, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena (SHS) won a majority. Following differences over the government formation, the alliance was dissolved, precipitating a political crisis.
