Muhammad Ibn Ibrahim Al Ash-Sheikh
Muḥammad ibn ʾIbrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-Laṭīf ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ḥasan ibn Muḥammad ibn Abd al-Wahhāb Al Shaykh Al-Tamīmī (1890– 3 December 1969), was a Saudis, Saudi Arabian religious scholar who served as the first Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia from 1953 until his death in 1969. He is recognized as being amongst the forefront of Salafi theologians in history. Background Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Al ash-Sheikh was born in Riyadh in 1890 to the noted family of Saudi religious scholars, the Al ash-Sheikh, descendants of Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab. His father was Sheikh Ibrahim ibn Abdul Latif Al ash-Sheikh, and his mother was Jawharah bint Abdul Aziz Al Hilali. He had a very religious upbringing. He memorized Quran in an early age. Grand Mufti Of Saudi Arabia
The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia is the most senior and most influential Muslim religious and legal authority in Saudi Arabia. The holder of the position is appointed by the King. The Grand Mufti is the head of the Permanent Committee for Islamic Research and Issuing Fatwas. Role The Grand Mufti is the most senior religious authority in the country. His main role is to give opinions (''fatwas'') on legal matters and on social affairs. The Saudi court system is heavily influenced by the opinions of the Grand Mufti. History The office was created in 1953 by King Abdul Aziz with the appointment of Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Al ash-Sheikh. Abdulaziz ibn Abdullah Al Baz (; 21 November 1912 – 13 May 1999), known as Ibn Baz or Bin Baz, was a Saudi Islamic scholar who served as the grand mufti of Saudi Arabia from 1993 until his death in 1999. According to French political scientist Gilles Kepel, Ibn Baz was a "figurehead" whose "immense religious erudition and his reputation for intransigence" gave him prestige among the population of Saudi Arabia. He "could reinforce the Saud family's policies through his influence with the masses of believers". Ibn Baz issued a fatwa authorising a wealth tax to support the mujahidin during the anti-Soviet jihad. Sheikh Muhammad bin Ibrahim Mosque () is a Sunni Islam mosque in the ad-Dirah neighborhood of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, located south of Souq al-Zal in the Qasr al-Hukm District. It was established in 1773 by Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Sheikh as the Dakhna Grand Mosque () in the Dakhna quarter of the former walled town and later got evolved into a center of learning for Hanbali Sunni scholars. Named after Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Al ash-Sheikh, it is one of the oldest existing mosques in Riyadh and was demolished and rebuilt on numerous occasions throughout the 20th century, with the latest renovation having taken place in the period 2001–2005 during the third phase of the Qasr Al Hukm District Development Project. Tarfa bint Abdullah Al Sheikh (; 1884–1906) was the third wife and one of the 22 consorts of Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman, Emir of Nejd (later King Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia), and the mother of Princess Noura and King Faisal. Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al ash-Sheikh (; born 1948) is the chairman of the Majlis ash-Shura (Consultative Assembly) of Saudi Arabia since February 2009. He was the minister of Justice from February 1992 to February 2009. Background and education Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al ash-Sheikh is a member of a noted family of Saudi religious scholars, the Al ash-Sheikh. He was born in Diriyah in 1948 and was educated by his father, Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Al ash-Sheikh former and the first Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia. He also studied the interpretation of the Quran and jurisprudence principles with the late Sheikh Abdulrazaq Afifi. He attended the Shariah College in Riyadh (later renamed Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University) and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Sharia in 1975.
