The Muhajir people (also spelled Mahajir and Mohajir) ( ur, , ) are Muslim immigrants of various ethnic groups and regional origins, and their descendants, who migrated from various regions of India after the Partition of India to settle in the newly independent state of Dominion of Pakistan, Pakistan. The term "Muhajirs" refers to those Muslim migrants from India, mainly elites, who mostly settled in urban Sindh. The Muhajir community also includes stranded Pakistanis in Bangladesh who migrated to Pakistan after 1971 following the secession of East Pakistan in the Bangladesh Liberation War. The Muhajir Province is a proposed province in pakistan for the ethnic muhajir people. Muhajirs who migrated from various states of India towards the Pakistan during the Partition of India in 1947. Majority of the Muhajirs which is then settled in sindh province of Pakistan due to the hospitality of the Sindhi peoples.This movement is backed by a Muhajir pan-nationalist political and ethnic movement seeking to establish a separate province in Sindh which seeks to represent the Muhajir people of Pakistan.
