Mudgee Wine Region
Mudgee is a wine region and Australian Geographical Indication in the Central Ranges zone in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is named for the town of Mudgee. Grapes were first grown around Mudgee from 1858, reaching a peak of 55 vineyards in 1893. Large wineries started planting again from 1974. Mudgee grows predominantly red wine varieties, especially Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. Central Ranges is a wine zone and Australian geographical indication in the Central West of New South Wales. It lies on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range, west of the Blue Mountains. Shiraz (grape)
Syrah (), also known as Shiraz, is a dark-skinned grape variety grown throughout the world and used primarily to produce red wine. In 1999, Syrah was found to be the offspring of two obscure grapes from southeastern France, Dureza and Mondeuse Blanche. Syrah should not be confused with Petite Sirah, a cross of Syrah with Peloursin dating from 1880. Merlot
Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name ''Merlot'' is thought to be a diminutive of ''merle'', the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Mudgee, New South Wales
Mudgee is a town in the Central West of New South Wales, Australia. It is in the broad fertile Cudgegong River valley north-west of Sydney and is the largest town in the Mid-Western Regional Council local government area as well as being the council seat. Huntington Estate Wines
Huntington Estate is an Australian winery based in Mudgee, New South Wales owned and operated by Tim and Nicky Stevens. History The winery was established in 1969 by Sydney solicitor Bob Roberts and his wife Wendy. Bob purchased 140 acres of land from fruit grower Kath Leggatt and farmer Marcel Ribeaux. He planted 20 acres of vines.Gilbert Wahlquist, Some of my best friends are winemakers, 2008, The winery was built in 1972 and was designed and built by Bob Roberts, and constructed from concrete blocks. By 1980 Huntington Estate comprised 100 acres of vines including shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, merlot, semillon and chardonnay.
