MuchMusic Video Awards
The iHeartRadio MMVAs were an annual awards show broadcast on Much to honour the year's best music videos that was last held in 2018. Originally debuting in 1990 as the Canadian Music Video Awards, the awards were renamed in 1995 to the MuchMusic Video Awards, reflecting the original (1984–2013) "MuchMusic" name of the Much channel. In 2016, the show was rebranded under the iHeartRadio banner after Much's parent company, Bell Media, reached a licensing agreement with iHeartMedia. In 2018, the show's full name was officially dropped. In 2019, six years after changing the name of MuchMusic to Much, and having reduced its music video programming to just one hour daily (''Much Retro Lunch''), the ceremony was not held, citing supposed scheduling conflicts with other events occurring in Toronto. Mitsou
Mitsou Annie Marie Gélinas (born September 1, 1970, in Loretteville, Quebec) is a Canadian pop singer, businesswoman, television and radio host, and actress. She is credited as Mitsou Gélinas when acting, but records simply as Mitsou (the French spelling of ''Mitsu'', which means honey in Japanese). Biography Born in Loretteville, Quebec, Mitsou is the granddaughter of Quebec actor and playwright Gratien Gélinas. She got involved in acting and modelling as a child notably in the French-Canadian soap opera ''Terre humaine'', but also began to pursue singing in her teenage years. Dance Appeal was a Canadian supergroup of dance, rhythm and blues, reggae and hip hop artists, who released the one-off single "Can't Repress the Cause" in 1990. The song, a plea for greater inclusion of these predominantly black music genres in the Canadian music industry, was released as a direct response to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission's 1990 decision to deny an FM radio license to Milestone Radio for what would have become Canada's first urban music station; the single's title was intentionally chosen to result in the initialism "CRTC". Lisa Dawn Lougheed (; ; born September 9, 1968) is a Canadian former singer, dancer, voice actress, and songwriter. She is likely best known for her role in the animated television series ''The Raccoons'', where she performed for the soundtrack and voiced Lisa Raccoon. Early life Lougheed was born to mixed race parents; her father is a Scottish- Irish mix from Northern Ontario and her mother is a Black Nova Scotian with ties to North Preston and Guysborough. Temperance was a Canadian Electronic music duo, formed in Toronto in 1990. Biography Temperance was founded by music hobbyist Mark Ryan (H.A. Der-Hovagimian), who began it as a solo commercial Tech house project until he was joined by singer Lorraine Reid. The duo signed a recording contract with Hi-Bias Records in 1991. Temperance's first commercial release was in early 1992 with the 5-track EP ''Phantasy''. The song "Losing Touch" featured the vocals of Lorraine Reid, Ryan's former schoolmate. The follow-up was a 5-track EP titled ''Obsessive''. BKS (band)
BKS was a Canadian techno group created by radio DJ Chris Sheppard, with Hennie Bekker and Greg Kavanagh (BKS = Bekker, Kavanagh, Sheppard). They were best known for collaborating with hockey personality Don Cherry to create the song ''Rock Em Sock Em Techno''. History BKS worked with Don Cherry on the song "Rock Em Sock Em Techno". The resulting video was named by MuchMusic as the worst video of 1993, although the video sold in excess of 550,000 copies. BKS recorded three albums of contemporary techno. Bran Van 3000 (also known as BV3) is a Canadian alternative rock and hip hop collective from Montreal, Quebec. Founded by James Di Salvio and E.P. Bergen, they collaborated on a number of songs with Stéphane Moraille, Sara Johnston, Steve "Liquid" Hawley, Jayne Hill, Jean Leloup, Kim Bingham, Pierre-Luc Cerat and many other musicians. The name of the group is derived etymologically from Swedish liquor Brännvin, a general term referring to any type of distilled spirit.
