Mt Cattlin Mine
The Mt Cattlin mine is a spodumene-tantalite mine north of Ravensthorpe, Western Australia. In 2019 Mt Cattlin had a reserve of of ore grading 1.29% and 155 ppm . The mine was operated by Galaxy Resources between 2009 and 2012 before being placed on care-and-maintenance in 2013. Mine production restarted on 31 March 2016 with a 17-year mine life at a rate of of ore per year. In January 2017 the first shipment of of lithium concentrate was consigned from Esperance to Lianyungang, China. Ravensthorpe, Western Australia
Ravensthorpe is a town 541 km south-east of Perth and 40 km inland from the south coast of Western Australia. It is the seat of government of the Shire of Ravensthorpe. At the , Ravensthorpe had a population of 438. In 1848, the area was surveyed by Surveyor General John Septimus Roe who named many of the geographical features nearby, including the nearby Ravensthorpe Range that the later town was named after. It occurs as colorless to yellowish, purplish, or lilac kunzite (see below), yellowish-green or emerald-green hiddenite, prismatic crystals, often of great size. Single crystals of in size are reported from the Black Hills of South Dakota, United States. The naturally-occurring low-temperature form α-spodumene is in the monoclinic system , and the high-temperature β-spodumene crystallizes in the tetragonal system. α-spodumene converts to β-spodumene at temperatures above 900 °C. Lianyungang () is a prefecture-level city in northeastern Jiangsu province, China.
