''Mrs. Temple's Telegram'' is a 1920 American silent comedy film directed by James Cruze and starring Bryant Washburn and Wanda Hawley. It is based on the 1905 Broadway play ''Mrs. Temple's Telegram'' by Frank Wyatt. It was produced by Famous Players-Lasky and released through Paramount Pictures. This film survives and is preserved at the Library of Congress and at Gosfilmofond, Moscow. Plot As described in a film magazine, Jack Temple (Washburn) adores his wife, but Mrs. Clara Temple (Hawley) is extremely jealous, and accuses him of flirting with a pretty woman in a department store tea room. After his wife's departure, the woman in question follows Jack around the store and even onto the roof of the building, where he was trying to hide. They are locked in there by the night watchman and have to remain on the roof all night. James Cruze
James Cruze (born James Cruze Bosen; March 27, 1884 – August 3, 1942) was a silent film actor and film director. Early years Cruze's middle name came from the battle of Vera Cruz. He was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but did not practice the religion after his teenage years. Very little is certain about his childhood and teen years because he told a different story at every interview he granted. Career Cruze acted in, directed and or produced over 100 films mainly during the silent film era. His first known acting job was at Lubin Manufacturing Company in 1910. He started at Thanhouser Company in 1911 with ''She'' (1911) which is where the majority of his body of work was produced, much of it as the leading man. After leaving Thanhouser in 1916, he worked for several other companies as director and producer, primarily for Paramount Pictures, from 1918 to 1938. Gosfilmofond is a state film archive in Russia. It is the main film archive of the Russian Federation and a member of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF). ''Too Much Wife'' is a lost 1922 American silent comedy film directed by Thomas N. Heffron, written by Percy Heath and Lorna Moon, and starring Wanda Hawley, T. Roy Barnes, Arthur Hoyt, Lillian Langdon, Leigh Wyant, Willard Louis, and Bertram Johns. It was released on January 1, 1922, by Paramount Pictures. Edward Jobson (actor)
Edward Jobson (February 29, 1860 – February 7, 1925) was an American actor of stage and silent film. He started in silent films in his fifties. He had a sour yet sad bulldog demeanor and can be spotted in several surviving silent films. In '' The Delicious Little Devil'' (1919) he plays Rudolph Valentino's father, though the two actors looked nothing alike. Anne Schaefer
Anne Schaefer (July 10, 1870 – May 3, 1957) was an American actress. She appeared in 147 films between 1911 and 1938. She was the aunt of fellow actresses Eva and Jane Novak. Schaefer was born to German parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schafer, on July 10, 1870, in St. Louis, Missouri, and attended Notre Dame Convent school in St. Louis. She also studied at a dramatic school founded by Lawrence Hanley in St. Louis and acted in his summer stock company. After acting on stage for several years, she signed with the Vitagraph film company. Leo White (November 10, 1882 – September 20, 1948), Leo Weiss, was a German-born British-American film and stage actor who appeared as a character actor in many Charlie Chaplin films. Biography Born in Germany, White grew up in England where he began his stage career. He was brought to the United States under the aegis of Daniel Frohman, a Broadway producer. He started his film career in 1911 and in 1913 moved to the Essanay Studios. In 1915, he began appearing in Chaplin's comedies and continued through Chaplin's Mutual Film comedies. His last appearance in a Chaplin film was a small role in ''The Great Dictator'', released in 1940. White also acted in and directed '' Triple Trouble'' (1918), Essanay's last Chaplin release. Sylvia Ashton
Sylvia Ashton (January 26, 1880 – November 18, 1940) was an American film actress of the silent film era. Ashton was born in Denver, Colorado. She bore a heavyset resemblance to Jane Darwell and like Darwell was playing mother and grandmother roles, though more famously than Darwell in the silents, while still in her 30s and 40s. In 1912, Ashton was an actress in D.W. Griffith's stock company. After that, she acted for Famous Players-Lasky. For years she was a regular member of Cecil B. DeMille's troupe of character actors. She appeared in more than 130 films between 1912 and 1929. She retired from movies almost immediately at the dawn of sound, one of her later films being the part-sound film ''The Barker'' (1928). Ashton died on November 18, 1940, aged 60. Walter Hiers (July 18, 1893 – February 27, 1933) was an American silent film actor. Biography Born in 1893, during his two decade-long acting career spanning from 1912 to 1932, Hiers acted in 101 films. He was a particularly prolific actor who could star in over 10 films a year. Carmen Phillips (born Anna Catherine Phillips; September 15, 1888 – December 14, 1966) was an American actress of the silent era. She appeared in more than 60 films between 1914 and 1926, frequently as a "vamp". Biography A native Californian, Phillips performed on stage in musical comedies and as a Floradora Girl before films. Her stage name, "Carmen," came from her work as an "operatic contralto." She died from complications of multiple sclerosis and her ashes are interred at Live Oak Memorial Park in Monrovia, California.
