Mr. Jinx (song)
"Mr. Jinx" (released as "Mr. Jinx (We've Got It Right)") is a 2002 hip-hop song by Quarashi, released as the second single from their American debut album, '' Jinx''. The song is remembered for its catchy, upbeat hook that was sampled from the 1970s soul band, New York City's song, "Sanity". The song also contains elements of funk, and has been described by Sölvi Blöndal, the producer of the ''Jinx'' album and a member of Quarashi, as sounding like something "made by a '60s brass band". Blöndal has said that "Mr. Jinx" is his favorite Quarashi song. While "Mr. Jinx" was not a big hit for Quarashi (peaking at number 43 on Radio & Records' Alternative chart), the song has been used as background music for several TV shows, most notably as the song heard during commercials for the '' NBA on TNT'' from 2003-2005. Quarashi
Quarashi is an Icelandic rap rock band from Reykjavík, Iceland. The group consists of rappers Hössi Ólafsson (later replaced by Egill Olafur Thorarensen), Ómar Örn Hauksson, Steinar Orri Fjeldsted, and Sölvi Blöndal (who also acted as producer, keyboardist, percussionist, drummer and songwriter). For live shows, Quarashi was joined by guitarist Smári "Tarfur" Jósepsson, bassist Gaukur Úlfarsson, and DJ Dice (later replaced by DJ Magic). The group came back together in 2016 and is planning on releasing a new album. The group released five studio albums from 1996 to 2005. Funk
Funk is a music genre that originated in African American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African Americans in the mid-20th century. ''Jinx'' is the fourth album by Quarashi, and is the only album the group released on a major record label. It was released on 9 April 2002. It was their first album to receive an international release, being released not only in Iceland, but also in the United States, Australia, Japan, and the rest of Europe. As such, ''Jinx'' is Quarashi's best known album. History After hearing Quarashi's last album, '' Xeneizes'', EMI Music Resources contacted Quarashi to perform at the Iceland Airwaves Music Festival hosted by EMI in conjunction with Flugleiðir in New York City in the fall of 1999. New York City was an American R&B vocal group. They formed in 1972 under the name "Tri-Boro Exchange", and all of the group's members had had significant experience singing in other vocal and doo-wop ensembles. They are also from New York City.
