Mr. Jingeling
Mr. Jingeling is the "Keeper of the Keys" to Santa's workshop - a holiday tradition in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Jingeling was originally sponsored by Halle's, a local department store. He served as the store's Christmas season spokesman on television and also acted as Santa's representative in the store. Mr. Jingeling became the "Keeper of the Keys" as a reward for saving Christmas when Santa lost the key to his Treasure House of Toys. Jingeling saved the day by making a new key. Mr. Jingeling was created in 1956 by Frank Jacobi, head of a Chicago advertising agency to promote the toys sold at Halle's Department Store in Cleveland. This was originally planned as a one-time promotion for the 1956 holiday season, but was immediately popular and became an annual tradition. Santa's Workshop is the legendary workshop where Santa Claus and his Christmas elf, elves are said to live and make the toys and presents given out at Christmas. The exact "location" of Santa's workshop varies depending upon local culture. There are at least eight claimed locations for his workshop. For example, children in Canada send letters to Santa's Workshop at his North Pole location in Canada with the unique postal code of "H0H 0H0". WEWS-TV (channel 5) is a television station in Cleveland, Ohio, United States, affiliated with ABC. It has been owned by the E. W. Tower City Center is a large mixed-use facility in Downtown Cleveland, Ohio, on its Public Square. Captain Penny
Captain Penny was the host of a children's television series on WEWS-TV (Channel 5) in Cleveland, Ohio from 1955 to 1971. The show starred Ron Penfound as "Captain Penny" and was produced by Earl Keyes. Captain Penny dressed as a railroad engineer and presented a variety of old cartoons, ''Little Rascals'' and ''Three Stooges''. The ''Captain Penny Show'' aired around noon in Cleveland from March 2, 1955, until September 4, 1971. For many years, the show was sponsored by Bosco chocolate syrup mix. During each show, Captain Penny would mix up a glass of Bosco and milk, then drink it down with an audible "gulp". Captain Penny's Pooch Parade segment featured pets that could be adopted from the Cleveland Animal Protective League. Higbee's
Higbee's was a department store founded in 1860 in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1987, Higbee's was sold to the joint partnership of Dillard's department stores and Youngstown-based developer, Edward J. DeBartolo. The stores continued to operate under the Higbee name until 1992, when DeBartolo sold his shares to his partners and the chain was re-branded as Dillard's.
