"Mr. E's Beautiful Blues" is a song by the American rock band Eels, released February 14, 2000 in the UK, and is the first single to be released from their third album, ''Daisies of the Galaxy'' (2000). The single reached No. 11 on the UK Singles Chart. Background and production It was produced and co-written by Michael Simpson of the Dust Brothers. Mark Oliver Everett wrote the song after finishing writing the album, and the record company insisted he put it on the album as well. He was against this idea, considering it a disruption of the album's flow, but made the compromise by putting it in as a bonus track. Legacy The song features prominently in the 2000 film ''Road Trip'', and is used in part in the 2008 film ''Charlie Bartlett''. In his autobiography, Everett states that letting the song be used for ''Road Trip'' is one of the few real regrets he has ever had. Eels (often typeset as eels or EELS) is an American Rock music, rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1991 by singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mark Oliver Everett, known by the stage name E. Band members have changed over the years, both in the studio and on stage, making Everett the only official member for most of the band's work. The Dust Brothers are a pair of songwriters and producers consisting of E.Z. Mike ( Michael Simpson) and King Gizmo ( John King). ''Things the Grandchildren Should Know'' is an autobiography by Mark Oliver Everett, the front man of the independent rock band Eels. Everett spent a year writing the book between the release of the retrospectives '' Meet The Eels: Essential Eels, Vol. 1 (1996–2006)'' and '' Useless Trinkets: B-Sides, Soundtracks, Rarities and Unreleased 1996–2006'' and the composition of 2009's ''Hombre Lobo.'' Title The book shares its title with the closing track from the Eels' 2005 album ''Blinking Lights and Other Revelations.'' In that song Everett takes on the persona of an elderly grandfather sharing the wisdom he has learned about life shortly before his death. Michael Simpson (producer)
Michael Simpson, also known as "E.Z. Mike", is an American record producer. Along with John King, he makes up one-half of the Los Angeles-based producing duo the Dust Brothers, who co-wrote and produced many critically acclaimed records including the Beastie Boys' ''Paul's Boutique'' and Beck's ''Odelay''. He won a Grammy Award for his song writing & production on Santana's '' Supernatural'' album in 1999. He has also done producing on his own - most notable is his work with the Eels.
