Mpumalanga (cricket Team)
Mpumalanga, also known as the Mpumalanga Rhinos, are a South African first-class cricket team representing the province of Mpumalanga. They have their headquarters in Witbank and play their home games at Uplands College in White River. First-class history When Cricket South Africa decided to expand the Provincial Three-Day Challenge in 2006, Mpumalanga were one of five provincial teams (along with Kei, KwaZulu-Natal Inland, Limpopo and South Western Districts) elevated to first-class status. Mpumalanga played eight first-class matches in the 2006–07 season. They lost six of them and drew the other two. Four of the defeats were by an innings. They also lost all eight of their matches in the Provincial One-Day Challenge. Roelof Hugo
Roelof Petrus Hugo (born 1 July 1983) is a South African retired cricketer who played first-class and List A cricket for Mpumalanga and South Western Districts between 2006 and 2011. Hugo was the captain and wicket-keeper for Mpumalanga when they played their inaugural season of first-class cricket in the 2006–07 season. He then spent four seasons as the wicket-keeper for South Western Districts. His highest first-class score was 91, which he made out of a team total of 165 all out for Mpumalanga against Namibia in November 2006. The next day he made a List A century against Namibia: 106 not out off 90 balls. During the English cricket season, Hugo played as a professional for Heyside in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League in Lancashire from 2007 to 2011. 2018 Africa T20 Cup
The 2018 Africa T20 Cup was the fourth and final edition of the Africa T20 Cup, a Twenty20 cricket tournament. It was held in South Africa in September 2018, as a curtain-raiser to the 2018–19 South African domestic season. Provincial side KwaZulu-Natal Inland were the defending champions. Organised by Cricket South Africa, the tournament was played between twenty teams. Sixteen of these teams had participated in previous years – thirteen South African provincial teams, national representative sides of Kenya, Namibia and Zimbabwe – and they were joined by South African teams Limpopo and Mpumalanga along with Nigeria and Uganda. The invitation was initially extended to Ghana, but they declined. Eastern Province Cricket Team
Eastern Province cricket team was the former team that represented the Eastern Province in domestic first-class cricket in South Africa, alongside one-day matches. Eastern Province played first-class cricket from 1893–94 to 2004–05, when the team was merged with neighbouring team Border to form the entirely professional franchise the Warriors. From 2004–05 the former provincial teams, such as Eastern Province, were allocated two CSA Provincial Competitions that they could participate in: the CSA 3-Day Cup and the CSA One-Day Cup. Although given first-class status, these competitions were to be only semi-professional and no longer represented the top level of domestic cricket in South Africa. Its territory is the area north of Johannesburg, and it includes Pretoria. Adolf Matthys "Aldo" van den Berg (born 9 March 1978) is a former South African cricketer whose domestic career spanned from 1997 to 2007. A right-handed all-rounder, he played matches for Gauteng, Easterns (which he briefly captained), and Mpumalanga. Born in Randfontein, van den Berg played for a representative South African Schools team during the 1996–97 season, and the following season, aged 19, made his senior debut for Gauteng, against Easterns in the one-day Standard Bank League. Easterns (formerly Eastern Transvaal) has played first-class cricket in South Africa since October 1991, and List A cricket since October 1989. For the purposes of the SuperSport Series, Easterns has merged with Northerns (formerly Northern Transvaal) to form the Titans. Eastern Transvaal was spun off from Northern Transvaal at a meeting in Actonville, Benoni. Easterns was called Eastern Transvaal from October 1989 until February 1995, changing its name after the Transvaal became Gauteng and a new province called ''Eastern Transvaal'' (later Mpumalanga) was formed that excluded East Rand territories that were part of the Eastern Transvaal cricket team. South Western Districts Cricket Team
South Western Districts, known as SW Districts or SWD, is a South African first class cricket team based in the Western Cape city of Oudtshoorn, representing approximately the eastern half of Western Cape province. They form part of the Cape Cobras franchise, and play their home games at the Oudtshoorn Recreation Ground. Playing history South Western Districts played their inaugural first-class match in the Currie Cup in 1904 at Mossel Bay against Western Province but did not play another first-class match for 102 years. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. A significant omission of the ICC ruling was any attempt to define first-class cricket retrospectively.
