Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The Mountain West Conference men's basketball tournament is held annually to determine the men's basketball champion from the Mountain West Conference. The winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Basketball tournament, although they did not in the 1998-1999 season, the conference's first year in existence. The Thomas & Mack Center in Paradise, Nevada has hosted the most tournaments (15), including the last 11 consecutive tournaments. San Diego State have won the tournament seven times, the most of any team. The No. 2 seed has won the tournament eight times, the most of any seed. The lowest seed to win the tournament was Colorado State as a No. 6 seed in 2003. Mark Dickel
Mark Robert Dickel (born 21 December 1976) is a former professional basketball player and coach in New Zealand-Australian. Early years Dickel attended Logan Park High School in Dunedin, New Zealand. In 1993, he joined the Otago Nuggets of the New Zealand National Basketball League and played there until 1996, when he left for college in the United States. In 1998, off-season, following the conclusion of his sophomore season, Dickel joined the Wellington Saints for the 1998 New Zealand NBL season. College career Dickel played college basketball at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, from 1996 to 2000, tying for the team lead in assists his freshman year of 1996–97 and leading the team in that category in his remaining three seasons. 2006 Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2006 Mountain West Conference men's basketball tournament was played at Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado from March 7–11, 2006. Regular season league champion San Diego State held off Wyoming, who were at the time the lowest seed to ever make the championship game (7th), 69–64 in overtime to claim the Mountain West Conference tournament title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. SDSU became the first school in the league's brief history to win multiple tournament titles (2002 & 2006) With the expansion and addition of TCU to the Mountain West Conference at the start of the 2005–06 athletic year, the conference tournament format was revised to include a play-in game between the 8th and 9th place teams, with the winner advancing to play the regular season MWC champion in the quarterfinals. Danny Granger
Danny Granger Jr. (born April 20, 1983) is an American former professional basketball player who played ten seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was drafted by the Indiana Pacers in 2005 after a two-year college stint at New Mexico. In 2009, Granger averaged 26 points per game on 45 percent shooting and was named an All-Star and the league's Most Improved Player. An injury to his left knee limited Granger to just five games during the 2012–13 season, and in February 2014, he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. The 2005 Mountain West Conference men's basketball tournament was played at Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, from March 9–12, 2005. Second-seeded New Mexico upset regular season league champion Utah 60–56 in the championship game to win the Mountain West Conference tournament and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It was the first time in the history of the tournament that the league's top two seeds advanced to the title tilt. This marked the final conference tournament played under the league's original 8-team format. TCU joined the Mountain West in the 2005–06 athletic year.
