Moulin Rouge
Moulin Rouge (, ; ) is a cabaret in Paris, on Boulevard de Clichy, at Place Blanche, the intersection of, and terminus of Rue Blanche. In 1889, the Moulin Rouge was co-founded by Charles Zidler and Joseph Oller, who also owned the Olympia (Paris), Paris Olympia. The original venue was destroyed by fire in 1915. Moulin Rouge is southwest of Montmartre, in the Paris district of Quartier Pigalle, Pigalle on Boulevard de Clichy in the 18ème arrondissement, Paris, 18th ''arrondissement'', it has a red windmill on its roof. ''Moulin Rouge'' is a 1928 British silent drama film directed by Ewald André Dupont and starring Olga Chekhova, Eve Gray and Jean Bradin. The film is set in and around the Moulin Rouge cabaret in Paris. Production The film was made at Elstree Studios by British International Pictures. It was Dupont's last fully silent film, although several of his later sound films were released with silent versions. Dupont was one of a number of leading Continental technicians and actors hired by BIP in the late 1920s to try and establish the company as a leading international producer. Pierre La Mure (15 June 1909 – 28 December 1976) was a French author. La Mure was born in Nice, in department Alpes-Maritimes. He published the 1950 novel ''Moulin Rouge (book), Moulin Rouge'' about the life of the French artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. This book was the basis of the classic Moulin Rouge (1952 film), 1952 movie of the same name. He later penned the play ''Monsieur Toulouse''; a work centered on Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's relationship to Marie Charlet, a prostitute, and his meeting with fellow artist Vincent van Gogh. Moulin Rouge (named after the French cabaret) is a Slovenian popular music group consisting of vocalist Alenka Šmid-Čena and songwriter, keyboardist, and producer Matjaž Kosi. Profile Keyboardist Matjaž Kosi founded Moulin Rouge after leaving Slovenian (then Yugoslav) synthpop band Videosex in 1985. Initially, Moulin Rouge consisted of three men; after reorganizing, Matjaž Kosi held an audition for a female vocalist. Alenka Šmid-Čena was chosen as lead vocalist. The band took its 1980s membership of Matjaž Kosi and Alenka Šmid-Čena in 1987. They were active primarily from the late 1980s to the early 2000s, and their work combines elements of 1980s Eurodance, Italo disco, Hi-NRG, and trance.
