Mother's Finest (album)
''Mother's Finest'' is the official debut album by Atlanta group Mother's Finest. It was released in 1972 on RCA Records, followed by a single, "You Move Me" b/w "Dear Sir And Brother Mann," but neither the album or single made the Billboard charts. The band was disappointed with the album, claiming that RCA added "instrumental sweetening" without their consent. Despite sessions for a second album, they were later dropped by RCA. The album was released on CD by Wounded Bird Records in 2010 as part of a two-disc package that also included the band's 1973 unreleased second RCA album, their 1976 Epic Records debut, also titled ''Mother's Finest'', and the single edit of "Thank You for the Love" from their 1977 Epic release, ''Another Mother Further''. Both the vinyl and CD editions are out-of-print. Mother's Finest
Mother's Finest is an American rock band founded in Atlanta, Georgia, by the vocal duo of Joyce "Baby Jean" Kennedy and Glenn "Doc" Murdock in 1970 when the pair met up with guitarist Gary "Moses Mo" Moore and bassist Jerry "Wyzard" Seay. Their music is a blend of funky rhythms, heavy rock guitars and expressive soul/R&B-style vocals. The group charted with the singles "Fire" (No. 93 Pop Singles), "Baby Love" (No. 79 Black Singles, No. 58 Pop Singles), "Don't Wanna Come Back" (No. 54 Black Singles), "Love Changes" (No. 26 Black Singles), and "Piece of the Rock" in the mid- to late 1970s. Feelin' Alright?
"Feelin' Alright?", also known as "Feeling Alright", is a song written by Dave Mason of the English rock band Traffic for their eponymous 1968 album ''Traffic''. It was also released as a single, and failed to chart in both the UK and the US, but it did reach a bubbling under position of #123 on the Billboard Hot 100. Joe Cocker performed a more popular rendition of the song that did chart in the U.S. Both Traffic's and Cocker's versions appear in the 2012 movie ''Flight''. The song had also been featured in the 2000 film '' Duets'', sung by Huey Lewis. Mother's Cookies is a food brand currently owned by Italian conglomerate Ferrero Group. Mother Cookies originally started as a bakery based in Oakland, California, that operated from 1914 to 2008. A sister company, Archway Cookies of Battle Creek, Michigan, was founded in 1936. Both Mother's Cookies and Archway declared bankruptcy in 2008. At its height, the company distributed cookies throughout the United States, and was one of the leading cookie makers in the country. "Love the One You're With" is a song by folk rock musician Stephen Stills. It was released as the lead single from his debut self-titled studio album in November 1970. The song, inspired by a remark Stills heard from musician Billy Preston, became his biggest hit single, peaking at No. 14 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in early 1971. David Crosby and Graham Nash, Stills' fellow members of Crosby, Stills & Nash, provide background vocals on the song. Bobby Bloom
Robert Bloom (January 15, 1946 – February 28, 1974) was an American singer-songwriter. He is known best for being a one-hit wonder with the 1970 song, "Montego Bay", which was co-written with and produced by Jeff Barry. Biography Bloom was born in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from Wantagh High School in 1964. In the early 1960s, while still in his teens, Bloom had been a member of the doo-wop group, The Imaginations. He received a big break in 1969 when he was awarded a contract to write and record a jingle for Pepsi, paving the way for his later success with "Montego Bay". David Thomas Mason (born 10 May 1946) is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist from Worcester, who first found fame with the rock band Traffic. Joyce "Baby Jean" Kennedy (born 1948) is an American singer raised in Chicago. Early life and career Joyce Kennedy was born in Anguilla, Mississippi, in 1948. Growing up as a young African American woman in Mississippi had little to no effect on young Joyce. This was due to the fact her grandparents were Masons, which allowed the family to own their own property, grow their own produce, and keep away from the racial tensions of the time. Her stay in Mississippi allowed her to enjoy the company of her family. In an interview done by the Jungle Room, Kennedy recalled how her grandmother would play the piano and sing throughout their home and while cousins would play their instruments by ear. Epic Records is an American record label owned by Sony Music Entertainment, a subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America, the North American division of Japanese conglomerate Sony.
