Morisset ( ;) is a commercial centre and suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie, Central Coast in New South Wales, Australia, and is located west of Lake Macquarie just off the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway. It is also located approximately halfway between Gosford and Newcastle. The count at the 2016 Census was 3,213 for the gazetted suburb of Morisset. The estimated urban population of the Morisset area, including Cooranbong, was 25,662 as at June 2019. Estimated resident population, 30 June 2019. The area has experienced moderate growth over the five years to 2019 with an average year-on-year rate of 1.79 percent. History The town is named for Major James Thomas Morisset, who camped there in 1823 while making the overland journey from Sydney to Newcastle. Morisset went on to become Commandant at Norfolk Island prison between 1829–1833, where his brutal regime led to a rebellion. Edric Norfolk Vaux Morisset
Edric Norfolk Vaux Morisset (22 June 1830 – 26 August 1887) was a high-ranking officer in both the paramilitary and civilian police forces of the New South Wales and Queensland colonies of the British Empire. He was Commandant of the paramilitary Native Police from 1857 to 1861 and concurrently became the first Inspector General of Police in Queensland in 1860. Morisset afterwards was appointed Superintendent of Police at Bathurst and then later on at Maitland. From 1883 until his death in 1887, Morisset was Superintendent of the Southern Districts and Deputy Inspector General of Police in New South Wales. Early life Edric Morisset was born at Norfolk Island in 1830 when it was a notoriously draconian penal colony. His father was Lieutenant-Colonel James Thomas Morisset, who was in command of this convict outpost. Pierre Morisset
Pierre R. Morisset, CMM, CStJ, (born August 27, 1943) was the 32nd Canadian Surgeon General. Biography Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Morisset was educated at the University of Ottawa, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Pre-Med) in 1964, and a Medical Degree in 1972. Morisset also completed a master's degree in Health Administration, at the University of Ottawa, in 1981. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a pilot in 1961, under the Regular Officer Training Plan. After graduating in 1964, he served as a flying instructor until he was accepted in the Military Medical Training Plan at the rank of flight lieutenant, in 1967. After his internship, in 1972, he was posted to Canadian Forces Base Ottawa as base surgeon, and promoted to major. Morisset was next posted to the Canadian Forces Base in Lahr, Germany, as base surgeon and Command Flight Surgeon in 1976, and the following year was promoted to lieutenant-colonel. Renée Morisset, (June 13, 1928 – May 3, 2009) was a Canadian pianist. She and her husband, Victor Bouchard, were one of the foremost piano duos in Canadian classical music. Honours Morisset was a pupil of Georges-Émile Tanguay. In 1964, she and her husband were awarded the Prix Calixa-Lavallée. In 1981, she and her husband were made Members of the Order of Canada in recognition of having "contributed to" Canada's "musical life by attracting attention to the works of Canadian composers - works that were composed especially for them - and through their participation in various cultural organizations".
