Mordecai Lee
Mordecai Lee is a former member of the Wisconsin State Assembly and Wisconsin State Senate. Biography Lee was born on August 27, 1948 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Syracuse University. Currently, he is a member of the faculty of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. He has also been a member of the faculty of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. In 1990, he was named Executive Director of the Milwaukee Jewish Council for Community Relations. Political career Before being elected to public office, Lee was a legislative assistant for U.S. Representative Henry S. Reuss. Lee was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1976 and was elected to the Wisconsin State Senate in 1982, where he served from 1983 to 1989. He was succeeded in his Senate seat by Tom Barrett. Wisconsin State Assembly
The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election. The Wisconsin Constitution limits the size of the State Assembly to between 54 and 100 members inclusive. Since 1973, the state has been divided into 99 Assembly districts apportioned amongst the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 99 representatives. From 1848 to 1853 there were 66 assembly districts; from 1854 to 1856, 82 districts; from 1857 to 1861, 97 districts; and from 1862 to 1972, 100 districts. Wisconsin State Senate
The Wisconsin Senate is the upper house of the Wisconsin State Legislature. Together with the larger Wisconsin State Assembly they constitute the legislative branch of the state of Wisconsin. The powers of the Wisconsin Senate are modeled after those of the U.S. Senate. The Wisconsin Constitution ties the size of the State Senate to that of the Assembly, by limiting its size to no less than 1/4, nor more than 1/3, of the size of the Assembly. Currently, Wisconsin is divided into 33 Senate Districts (1/3 of the current Assembly membership of 99) apportioned throughout the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 33 senators. Tom Barrett (Wisconsin Politician)
Thomas Mark Barrett (born December 8, 1953) is an American diplomat and politician who has served as the United States ambassador to Luxembourg since 2022. He previously served as the 44th mayor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin from 2004 until 2021. A member of the Democratic Party, he was previously elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly (1984–1989), Wisconsin Senate (1989–1993) and U.S. House of Representatives (1993–2003). On April 6, 2004, Milwaukee elected Tom Barrett as its 40th mayor. He won reelection in 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020. When he left office, Barrett was the longest-serving current mayor of one of the 50 largest cities in the United States.
