Moore-Cunningham House
The Moore-Cunningham House is a Queen Anne style mansion designed by architect James King and constructed in Boise, Idaho in 1892. The brick house is 6326 square feet and contains five bedrooms, 4.75 bathrooms, and features a wraparound veranda and an observation tower. It is the first house in Boise to use geothermal heating. Since its construction, the Moore-Cunningham House had been owned by family members and descendants of Christopher W. Moore, but in 2017 it was listed for sale at $2.4 million. James King (architect)
James King was an early architect in Idaho. He was the first formally trained architect operating in the state. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and studied architecture there. During the American Civil War he served in the quartermaster's department, in West Virginia. After the war he practiced architecture in West Virginia. He moved to Boise, Idaho in 1888. According to the National Register nomination about one of his works, "Research has not revealed much information about King, and few of his buildings remain." Queen Anne Architecture In The United States
Queen Anne style architecture was one of a number of popular Victorian architectural styles that emerged in the United States during the period from roughly 1880 to 1910. Popular there during this time, it followed the Second Empire and Stick styles and preceded the Richardsonian Romanesque and Shingle styles. Sub-movements of Queen Anne include the Eastlake movement. The style bears almost no relationship to the original Queen Anne style architecture in Britain (a toned-down version of English Baroque that was used mostly for gentry houses) which appeared during the time of Queen Anne, who reigned from 1702 to 1714, nor of Queen Anne Revival (which appeared in the latter 19th century there). The American style covers a wide range of picturesque buildings with "free Renaissance" (non-Gothic Revival) details, rather than being a specific formulaic style in its own right. Geothermal Heating
Geothermal heating is the direct use of geothermal energy for some heating applications. Humans have taken advantage of geothermal heat this way since the Paleolithic era. Approximately seventy countries made direct use of a total of 270 PJ of geothermal heating in 2004. As of 2007, 28 GW of geothermal heating capacity is installed around the world, satisfying 0.07% of global primary energy consumption. Thermal efficiency is high since no energy conversion is needed, but capacity factors tend to be low (around 20%) since the heat is mostly needed in the winter. Geothermal energy originates from the heat retained within the Earth since the original formation of the planet, from radioactive decay of minerals, and from solar energy absorbed at the surface. KTVB (channel 7) is a television station in Boise, Idaho, United States, affiliated with NBC and owned by Tegna Inc. The station's studios are located on West Fairview Avenue (off I-184) in Boise, and its transmitter is located at the Bogus Basin ski area summit in unincorporated Boise County. The station also operates a low-power repeater in Twin Falls, KTFT-LD (channel 7). The two signals are identical, with the exception of commercials, which are sold and targeted to the Magic Valley area.
