Moments (Boz Scaggs Album)
''Moments'' is the third album by singer Boz Scaggs, released in 1971. It was his debut album on the Columbia label. Reception In a contemporary review, ''Rolling Stone'' critic Charlie Burton hailed ''Moments'' as "one of the most transcendental albums to come out of rock in some time", "elaborately arranged and produced, but the result is a warm, funky spontaneity, somewhat reminiscent of Van Morrison, but, I think, more accessible." Allmusic gave a thoroughly warm retrospective review of the album, praising its mellow and laid-back tone. They also considered the album a precursor to Scaggs's greatest artistic achievement, saying that it "found him sketching out the blue-eyed soul that would eventually bring him fame when he streamlined it for 1976's '' Silk Degrees''." Boz Scaggs
William Royce "Boz" Scaggs (born June 8, 1944) is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. An early bandmate of Steve Miller in The Ardells and the Steve Miller Band, he began his solo career in 1969, though he lacked a major hit until his 1976 album ''Silk Degrees'' peaked at number 2 on the ''Billboard'' 200, and produced the hit singles " Lido Shuffle" and " Lowdown". Scaggs produced two more platinum-certified albums in ''Down Two Then Left'' and ''Middle Man'', the latter of which produced two top-40 singles "Breakdown Dead Ahead" and " Jojo". After a hiatus for most of the 1980s, he returned to recording and touring in 1988, joining The New York Rock and Soul Revue and opening the nightclub Slim's, a popular San Francisco music venue until it closed in 2020. ''Silk Degrees'' is the seventh solo album by Boz Scaggs, released on Columbia Records in February 1976. The album peaked at No. 2 and spent 115 weeks on the ''Billboard'' 200. It has been certified five times platinum by the RIAA and remains Scaggs's best selling album. ''Silk Degrees'' spawned four singles. "It's Over" (No. 38), " Lowdown" (No. 3) and " Lido Shuffle" (No. 11) made the Top 40, while "What Can I Say" peaked at No. 42. The front cover photograph was by Moshe Brakha of Scaggs at Casino Point, Avalon, California. Background The album was recorded at Davlen Sound Studios and Hollywood Sound Recorders in Los Angeles. Joseph Thomas "Coke" Escovedo (April 30, 1941 – July 13, 1986) was an American percussionist, who came from a prominent musical family including five musician brothers and his niece, Sheila E. He played in various genres, including R&B, jazz fusion and soul, with bands including Santana, Malo, Cal Tjader, and Azteca. Ben Hirsh Sidran (born August 14, 1943) is an American jazz and rock keyboardist, producer, label owner, and music writer. Early in his career he was a member of the Steve Miller Band and is the father of Grammy-nominated musician, composer and performer Leo Sidran. Life and career He was born in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Sidran was raised in Racine, Wisconsin, and attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1961, where he became a member of The Ardells with Steve Miller and Boz Scaggs.
