The Moldovans in Russia consists of two major parts: Russian citizens and labor migrants (''gastarbeiters''). According to the 2002 Russian Census there were 172,196 Moldovans among the legal residents of Russia.The Russian Census (2002) included legal residents: citizens, legal permanent residents, legal immigration status seekers, and authorized workers and students, as well as some categories of non-residents. According to the 2010 Russian Census there were 156,400 Moldovans, as well as 3,201 Romanians. Gastarbeiter
(; both singular and plural; ) are foreign worker, foreign or migrant workers, particularly those who had moved to West Germany between 1955 and 1973, seeking work as part of a formal guest worker program (). As a result, guestworkers are generally considered temporary migrants because their residency in the country of immigration is not yet determined to be permanent. Other countries had similar programs: in the Netherlands and Belgium it was called the program; in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland it was called (workforce-immigration); and in East Germany such workers were called . Ion Druță
Ion Druță (3 September 1928 – 28 September 2023), also known as Ion Drutse, was a Moldovan writer, poet, playwright and literary historian. He was an honorary member of the Romanian Academy. Biography Ion Druță was born on 3 September 1928 in the village of Horodiște in what was then Soroca County in the Kingdom of Romania (now in Dondușeni District, Republic of Moldova). He graduated from the Forestry School and the Higher Courses of the Institute of Literature "Maxim Gorki" of the Union of Soviet Writers. From 1969, he lived in Moscow, Russia. Druță's first short stories were published in the early 1950s. His works are considered to be part of the "gold fund" of contemporary national literature. Druță died in Moscow on 28 September 2023, at the age of 95. His ashes were burried under the Thanksgiving Candle, Soroca. Vincent (Vinkenty, Vichentie, russian: Викентий; born Viktor Aleksandrovich Morar or Morari or Moraru, on December 4, 1953), is a bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church. He serves as Metropolitan of Tashkent and Uzbekistan and he is a permanent member of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church. Life Victor Moraru was born in Sculeni, Moldovan SSR. His father was an orthodox priest. He wanted to become a physician, but because of his family's religiosity, he chose to become a priest. In 1981 he was tonsured a monk in honour of saint Vincent of Saragossa. In 1982 he graduated from the Moscow Theological Academy. Eugen Doga (born 1 March 1937) is a Romanian and Russian composer from the Republic of Moldova. A creator of three ballets "Luceafărul", "Venancia", "Queen Margot", the opera "Dialogues of Love", more than 100 instrumental and choral works – symphonies, 6 quartets, "Requiem", church music, and other, plus music for 13 plays, radio shows, more than 200 movies, more than 260 songs and romances, more than 70 waltzes; he is also the author of works for children, the music for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games in 1980 in Moscow. In Moldova, the years 2007 and 2017 (when the composer celebrated his 70th and 80th birthdays, respectively) were declared the Year of Eugen Doga. Emil Vladimirovich Loteanu (6 November 1936 – 18 April 2003) was a Romanian-Soviet film director born in what is now Moldova. He moved to Moscow in his early life. His best known films are ''Lăutarii'', ''Gypsies Are Found Near Heaven'', '' A Hunting Accident'' and ''Anna Pavlova''.
