Moldova In The Eurovision Song Contest 2022
Moldova participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy, with the song "" performed by the band Zdob și Zdub and the Advahov Brothers. The Moldovan broadcaster TeleRadio-Moldova (TRM) selected the Moldovan entry for the 2022 contest by organising a live audition on 29 January 2022, where "" was selected by an expert jury. Moldova was drawn to compete in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 10 May 2022. Performing during the show in position 9, "" was announced among the top 10 entries of the first semi-final and therefore qualified to compete in the final on 14 May. It was later revealed that Moldova placed eighth out of the 17 participating countries in the semi-final with 154 points. In the final, Moldova performed in position 19 and placed seventh out of the 25 participating countries, scoring 253 points, 239 of them which came from the public televote. Zdob și Zdub (; , onomatopoeia, onomatopoeic for the sound of a drum beat) is a Moldovan folk punk band, based in Chișinău. Nikolaos "Nikos" Sofis (Greek: Νικόλαος "Νίκος" Σοφής; born 10 May 1992 in Munich, Germany), is a Greek sports manager and lyricist, from Larissa, Greece. Aliona Munteanu (born 25 May 1989), better known as Aliona Moon, is a Moldovan singer. In 2012, she was a backing vocalist for Pasha Parfeny who represented Moldova at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012. Geta Burlacu (, born Georgeta Povorozniuc on 22 July 1974) is a Moldovan singer. She represented Moldova in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song "A Century of Love” written by Vica Demici and Oleg Baraliuc. Career Burlacu began singing at age of seven. She studied violin at the music school in Bălți and graduated from the College of Music in Balti as a violinist. In 1993 she went to the Academy of Music in Chisinau to study jazz and folk music. Radio Moldova ( ro, Radio Moldova, RM) is the first publicly funded radio broadcaster in Moldova. History The first radio transmission in Moldova was broadcast on November 1, 1928 by the Radiotelephonic Broadcasting Company in Bucharest.
