Moire (fabric)
Moire ( or ), less often moiré, is a textile with a wavy (watered) appearance produced mainly from silk, but also wool, cotton and rayon. The watered appearance is usually created by the finishing technique called calendering. Moire effects are also achieved by certain weaves, such as varying the tension in the warp and weft of the weave. Silk treated in this way is sometimes called watered silk.Encyclopædia Britannica 1949, volume 15, p. 661 Method of production Moire is produced from two distinctly different methods of finishing. Calendering produces the true moire, known as "moire antique" and "moire Anglaise", which is a purely physical phenomenon. In calendering, the fabric is folded lengthwise in half with the face side inward, and with the two selvedges running together side by side. To produce moire, ribbed rollers are used, and the ribs produce the watermark effect. The rollers polish the surface and make the fabric smoother and more lustrous. High temperatures and ...

Emmanuel Moire
Emmanuel Moire (born 16 June 1979 in Le Mans) is a French singer-songwriter, best known for portraying the role of Louis XIV in the French stage musical ''Le Roi Soleil''. Moire has released four albums '' (Là) où je pars'' (2006), '' L'Équilibre'' (2009), '' Le chemin'' (2013) and ''La Rencontre'' (2015). He sings and plays the piano, with a hundred tunes to his credit. He participated on TV show '' Danse avec les Stars'', which he won in December 2012. Career At 21 years of age, Emmanuel was selected to take part in the 16th meeting of Astaffort, a training course for songwriters and performers. Between 2004 and 2007, he portrayed Louis XIV in the successful musical ''Le Roi Soleil,'' whose cast included Christophe Maé and Merwan Rim. Emmanuel Moire released his first solo album, titled '' Là où je pars'', on 13 November 2006. With British pop influences, the first album paid special attention to the melodies even more than the emotions. The piano, vocals and beautiful ...

Milo Moiré
Milo Moiré (; born 7 May 1983) is a Swiss pornographic film actress, conceptual artist, and model known for her nude performances and the use of her body in her art. Moiré was born in Switzerland, of Slovak and Spanish origin. She has an art school background and a master's degree in psychology from University of Bern in Switzerland (magna cum laude). Moiré is known for performance art pieces including ''PlopEgg, The Script System No.2,'' and ''Mirror Box.'' Currently, she does daily live pornography that can be viewed for a fee through her website and social networks. ''PlopEgg'' Moiré's ''PlopEgg No. 1'', performed at Art Cologne 2014, was a work of action painting that involved the expelling of paint filled eggs from her vagina on to a canvas, thus creating an abstract work of art.

Line Moiré
Line moiré is one type of moiré pattern; a pattern that appears when superposing two transparent layers containing correlated opaque patterns. Line moiré is the case when the superposed patterns comprise straight or curved lines. When moving the layer patterns, the moiré patterns transform or move at a faster speed. This effect is called optical moiré speedup. Superposition of layers with periodically repeating parallel lines Simple moiré patterns can be observed when superposing two transparent layers comprising periodically repeating opaque parallel lines as shown in Figure 1. The lines of one layer are parallel to the lines of the second layer. The superposition image does not change if transparent layers with their opaque patterns are inverted. When considering printed samples, one of the layers is denoted as the base layer and the other one as the revealing layer. It is assumed that the revealing layer is printed on a transparency and is superimposed on top of the base ...

Moiré Deflectometry
Moiré deflectometry produces result that appears similar to an interferometry technique, in which the object to be tested (either phase object or specular surface) is mounted in the course of a collimated beam followed by a pair of transmission gratings placed at a distance from each other. The resulting fringe pattern, i.e., the moiré deflectogram, is a map of ray deflections corresponding to the optical properties of the inspected object. Moiré deflectometry can be a powerful tool for nondestructive optical testing. A major advantage of the technique is that it is less sensitive to mechanical vibration, and it is therefore widely used in the ophthalmic industry for laminar analysis. A similar implementation in wind tunnel application for quantitative measurement is moire schlieren, a variation of schlieren photography. In 2012 the first application of the method for the measurement of electron density in plasma has been published. The method excels in spatial and temporal re ...

Shape Moiré
Shape moiré is one type of moiré patterns demonstrating the phenomenon of moiré magnification. 1D shape moiré is the particular simplified case of 2D shape moiré. One-dimensional patterns may appear when superimposing an opaque layer containing tiny horizontal transparent lines on top of a layer containing a complex shape which is periodically repeating along the vertical axis. Description Shape moiré is sometimes referred as band moiré. The opaque layer with transparent lines is called the revealing layer. The layer containing the periodically repeating shapes is called the base layer. The period of shapes in the base layer is denoted as ''p''b. The period of transparent lines in the revealing layer is denoted as ''p''r. The periods of both layers must be sufficiently close. The superimposition image reveals the shapes of the base layer stretched along the vertical axis. The magnified shapes appear periodically along the vertical axis. The dimensions along the horizontal ax ...

Moires
Moires ( el, Μοίρες, "Fates") is a town and a former municipality in the Heraklion regional unit, Crete, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Faistos, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of and a population of 11,434 people (about 6,500 for the town itself). The weekly market of the agricultural town of Moires is the largest in the region. In the early Middle Ages it was the home of Christian hermits, who allegedly met only once a year to worship at the chapel of Agios Andonis, built in the 14th or 15th century. Subdivisions The municipal unit of Moires is divided into the following communities: * Moires * Alithini * Antiskari * Galia * Kastelli * Kouses * Peri * Petrokefali * Pigaidakia (including Kaloi Limenes) * Pompia * Roufas * Skourvoula Population Climate Moires has a mild climate throughout the year with mild winters and hot summers. The climate is generally dry with an average annual pre ...
