Mohandas (2019 Film)
''Mohandas'' is an Indian biographical film about the childhood of Mahatma Gandhi. It is written and directed by nine-time National Film Award winner P. Sheshadri and was made in three languages simultaneously, English, Hindi and Kannada. It is partially based on Sahitya Akademi Award winning Kannada writer Bolwar Mahammad Kunhi's book ''Papu Gandhi, Bapu Gandhi Aada Kathe: The Story of Mahatma Gandhi'' and ''The Story of My Experiments with Truth'', the autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi. The film covers the events of Gandhi's childhood from the ages of 6 to 14. The cast includes Param Swamy playing Gandhi as a child and Samarth Hombal playing Gandhi as a teenager. Shruti plays Gandhi's mother Putlibai and Anant Mahadevan plays his father Karamchand Gandhi. Other cast members include Shriram H. Girija (born 18 September 1975), known by her screen name Shruti, is an Indian actress, television personality and politician. As an actress, she predominantly appears in Kannada film industry. She is currently serving as chief secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party's women's wing in its Karnataka cadre. In addition to Kannada, Shruti has appeared in a handful of Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam films. Karamchand Gandhi
Karamchand Uttamchand Gandhi (1822 — 16 November 1885) was a political figure in Porbandar. He served as Diwan of Porbandar and Rajkot. He was the father of Mahatma Gandhi. Life The Gandhi family originated from the village of Kutiana in what was then Junagadh State. In the early 18th century, Lalji Gandhi moved to Porbandar and entered the service of its ruler, the Rana. Successive generations of the family served as civil servants in the state administration before Uttamchand, Karamchand's father, became ''diwan'' in the early 19th century under the then Rana of Porbandar, Khimojiraj. In 1831, Rana Khimojiraj died suddenly and was succeeded by his 12-year-old only son, Vikmatji. As a result, Rana Khimojiraj's widow, Rani Rupaliba, became regent for her son. Gandhi Jayanti is an event celebrated in India to mark the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. It is celebrated annually on 2 October, and is one of the three national holidays of India. Bioscope Show
A Bioscope show was a music hall and fairground attraction consisting of a travelling cinema. The heyday of the Bioscope was from the late 1890s until World War I. History Bioscope shows were fronted by the largest fairground organs, and these formed the entire public face of the show. A stage was usually in front of the organ, and dancing girls would entertain the crowds between film shows. Films shown in the Bioscope were primitive, and the earliest of these were made by the showmen themselves. Later, films were commercially produced. Bioscope shows were integrated, in Britain at least, into the Variety shows in the huge Music Halls which were built at the end of the nineteenth century. After the Music Hall Strike of 1907 in London, bioscope operators set up a trade union to represent them. There were about seventy operators in London at this point. A cameo role, also called a cameo appearance and often shortened to just cameo (), is a brief appearance of a well-known person in a work of the performing arts. Bolwar Mahammad Kunhi (born 1951) is an Indian short story writer, novelist, playwright and scriptwriter. He writes in the Kannada language. He is the first Indian writer to introduce Muslim ethos and culture into creative Kannada prose. He is the only Indian writer conferred with Central Sahitya Academy twice for creative prose. Sahitya Akademi Award
The Sahitya Akademi Award is a literary honour in India, which the Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, annually confers on writers of the most outstanding books of literary merit published in any of the 22 languages of the 8th Schedule to the Indian constitution as well as in English and Rajasthani language. Established in 1954, the award comprises a plaque and a cash prize of ₹ 1,00,000. The award's purpose is to recognise and promote excellence in Indian writing and also acknowledge new trends.
