Mohammadabad is a constituency of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, and a segment of Ballia Lok Sabha constituency, covering the city of Mohammadabad (also spelled Muhammadabad) in the Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh, India. It should not be confused with the assembly segment Muhammadabad-Gohna which falls under Ghosi Lok Sabha seat in Mau district. Mohammadabad is one of five assembly constituencies in the Ballia Lok Sabha constituency. Since 2008, this assembly constituency is numbered 378 amongst 403 constituencies. Krishnanand Rai
Krishnanand Rai (11 December 1956 – 29 November 2005) was an Indian politician from Uttar Pradesh. He served as a MLA from 2002 to 2005 representing Mohammadabad Assembly located at Ghazipur district. His first stint at politics was in year 1999 from same assembly seat, which he lost. He was the member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Alka Rai
Alka Rai is an Indian politician associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Alka Rai contested the Uttar Pradesh assembly election held in 2017. She got elected from the Mohammadabad constituency by defeating Sibakatullah Ansari with a margin of more than one lakh votes. She claimed that her husband Krishnanand Rai was allegedly murdered by Mukhtar Ansari but later in 2019 Mukhtar Ansari was found not guilty. The person she defeated in the elections was Ansari's brother. However this is not the first victory of Alka Rai in an assembly election. The election to the 17th Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly was held from 11 February to 8 March 2017 in 7 phases. This election saw a voter turnout of 61.11% compared to 59.40% in the previous election.
