Mohammad Jamal (singer)
Mohammad Jamal ( ar, مُحمَّد جمال; 24 May 1934 – 26 May 2023), stage name of Jamaluddin Tiffaha ( ar, جمال الدين مُحمَّد تُفَّاحة), was a Lebanese singer, composer and actor. Life and career Born in Tripoli, Lebanon, to a Greek mother and to a music teacher who was of Palestinian origin, owned a shop selling and repairing musical instruments, Jamal was trained in singing since childhood. Between 1949 and 1951 he moved in Iraq with his family, and there he was introduced to the Iraqi maqam style. After failing to graduate in electrical engineering, in 1954 he started his professional musical career, working for Radio Lebanon and recording two songs he composed, "Alouli Ahl el-Hawa" and "Asmar Ya Shaghel Albi". While performing at Casino Ajram, he was noted by film director Helmy Rafla, and made his acting debut in the 1956 Egyptian film ''El-Armala el-Taroub'', in which he also performed two songs. Tripoli ( ar, طرابلس/ALA-LC: ''Ṭarābulus'', Lebanese Arabic: ''Ṭrablus'') is the largest city in northern Lebanon and the second-largest city in the country. Rahbani Brothers
The Rahbani brothers (Arabic: الأخوان رحباني), Assi Rahbani (4 May 1923 – 21 June 1986) and Mansour Rahbani (1925 – 13 January 2009) were Lebanese sibling musicians, composers, songwriters, authors, and playwrights/dramatists, best known for their work with the singer Fairuz, Assi's wife. "Darla dirladada" is a song recorded by French singer Dalida, first released on single during summer of 1970. It was a #1 hit in France. The song is based on Greek folk song "Dirlada" (Greek: ), originating from the island of Kalymnos in Greece. Origins It was conceived as a song that sponge divers would sing when traveling with their ''caïque'' boats across the seas. The song's lyrics contain words of encouragement and the opportunity awaiting the crew. Helmy Rafla (May 15, 1909 – April 22, 1978; ar, حلمي رفلة) was an Egyptian film director, screenwriter, film producer, and make-up artist. He is considered one the most prominent Egyptian filmmakers. Biography Helmy Rafla was born on 15 May 1909 in the Kingdom of Egypt. Rafla did make-up for actress Umm Kulthum in many of her films, which allowed him travel to France to learn the art of make-up. After he returned to Cairo, businessman Talaat Harb asked Rafla to work as an assistant to some foreigners from Europe that were working at Studio Misr, a Cairo-based film studio established by Harb. Rafla continued to work in Studio Misr, until 1936 when the Egyptian Ministry of Education announced they were dispatching Egyptians to France and England in order to learn more about the art of theatre and cinema, including cosmetology.
