Modern Pentathlon At The 2004 Summer Olympics – Men's
The men's modern pentathlon at the 2004 Summer Olympics took place at the Olympic Modern Pentathlon Centre in Goudi Olympic Complex on 26 August. Thirty-two athletes from 20 nations participated in this event. Although the event was considered wide open, as no other athlete dominated the sport since 2000, the Russians, Lithuanians and Czechs continued to reach the top positions in the men's competition. Russia's Andrey Moiseev won the gold medal with a score of 5,480 points. Andrejus Zadneprovskis of Lithuania won the nation's first ever Olympic medal in modern pentathlon, taking the silver. Libor Capalini of the Czech Republic, on the other hand, claimed the bronze, winning his nation's first medal in the sport since Jan Bártů in 1976. Dzmitry Meliakh ( be, Дзмітрый Мелях; born July 2, 1979, in Minsk) is a three-time Olympic modern pentathlete from Belarus. He first competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, and achieved his best result in the men's event, with a score of 5,340 points, finishing in fifth place. Following his best result, he also won the gold medal at the 2006 UIPM World Cup no. 2 in Millfield, England, and bronze medals at the European Senior Championships Olympic Qualification in Riga, Latvia in the team relay event, and the 2006 UIPM World Cup no. 5 in Cairo, Egypt for the individual senior division. Qian Zhenhua (; born September 1, 1979, in Shanghai) is a male Chinese modern pentathlete who competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics, in the 2004 Summer Olympics and also in the 2008 Summer Olympics. In 2000, he finished 24th in the men's competition. Four years later, he finished 16th in the men's competition. Chad Senior
Chad Senior (born December 27, 1974) is an American Olympic modern pentathlete. Early years Senior grew up in Fort Myers, Florida, and graduated from North Fort Myers High School. During each year at North Fort Myers High School he earned varsity letters in track, cross country and swimming. He was one of the top athletes in southwest Florida and earned many awards and accolades. Senior graduated from high school in 1993 and went on to attend The George Washington University in Washington, DC, on a full swimming scholarship. He holds school records for the 1,000 Freestyle with a time of 9:20.20 in 1993, and the 1,650 Freestyle with a time of 15:36.48 in 1997. Vakhtang Iagorashvili
Vakhtang "Vaho" Iagorashvili (born April 5, 1964 in Tbilisi, Georgia) is a Soviet modern pentathlete, who has been a member of three different Olympic teams during his sporting career. Iagorashvili emerged as the top favorite to win the men's individual and team modern pentathlon in the late 1980s. As a competitor for the Soviet Union, he had won the bronze medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, and gold at the 1990 Goodwill Games in Seattle, became a three-time national champion for the team, and claimed multiple titles at the world championships. He also won three European titles (two golds and one bronze for the individual and team events). After the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, Iagorashvili retired from his sport, and emigrated to the United States to work as a physical education instructor at the Austin Community College in Austin, Texas.
