Gov't Mule
Gov't Mule (pronounced "Government Mule") is an American Southern rock jam band, formed in 1994 as a side project of the Allman Brothers Band by guitarist Warren Haynes and bassist Allen Woody. Fans often refer to Gov't Mule simply as ''Mule''. The band released their debut album, ''Gov't Mule'', in 1995, and have since released an additional nine studio albums, plus numerous EPs and live releases. ''Déjà Voodoo'' is the sixth studio album by southern rock jam band Gov't Mule. The album was released on September 14, 2004, by ATO Records. It was the first Gov't Mule album to feature Andy Hess as a member, and the first studio album to feature Danny Louis as a member. It was also the first album that Gov't Mule did not play live before its release. The title is a reference to the band's belief that it rocks just like it used to before the death of former bassist Allen Woody. Craig McClune, commonly known as Clune, is a British musician and producer, known mostly as the drummer, percussionist, backing vocalist and bass player for David Gray. He first appeared with Gray on his second studio album, 1994's ''Flesh'', and subsequently on ''Sell, Sell, Sell'' (1996), the 1998 platinum-certified ''White Ladder'' (described as one of the biggest albums of the 21st century), its 2001 follow-up, '' Lost Songs 95–98'', ''A New Day at Midnight'' (2002) and 2005's ''Life in Slow Motion''. "Ballerina" is the second to last song on ''Astral Weeks'', the 1968 album by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison. Recording and composition "Ballerina" was recorded during the last ''Astral Weeks'' session on October 15, 1968, at Century Sound Studios in New York City. Lewis Merenstein was the producer. Morrison wrote "Ballerina" upon first meeting his future wife, Janet (an actress and model), when touring the U.S. with his band Them in June 1966. Them guitarist Jim Armstrong remembers rehearsing and playing the song for the first time at the Waikiki Shell in Hawaii. Morrison commented to Ritchie Yorke about his inspiration for the song: "I was in San Francisco one time in 1966 and I was attracted to the city. It was the first time I had been there, and I was sitting in this hotel and all these things were going through my head, and I had a flash about an actress in an opera house appearing in a ballet, and I think that's where the song came from." Sir George Ivan Morrison (born 31 August 1945), known professionally as Van Morrison, is a Northern Irish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose recording career spans seven decades. He has won two Grammy Awards. As a teenager in the late 1950s, he played a variety of instruments such as guitar, harmonica, keyboards and saxophone for several Irish showbands, covering the popular hits of that time. Warren Haynes
Warren Haynes (born April 6, 1960) is an American musician, singer and songwriter. He is best known for his work as longtime guitarist with the Allman Brothers Band and as founding member of the jam band Gov't Mule. Early in his career he was a guitarist for David Allan Coe and The Dickey Betts Band. Haynes also is known for his associations with the surviving members of the Grateful Dead, including touring with Phil Lesh and Friends and the Dead. In addition, Haynes founded and manages Evil Teen Records. Personal background and style Haynes spent his formative years in Asheville, North Carolina, where he was born, and lived with his two older brothers and his father, Edward Haynes. Matt Abts
Matt Abts (born September 30, 1953) is an American drummer, best known as one of the founding members of the rock band Gov't Mule. Biography Abts attended high school in Panama where he started playing music. After moving to Virginia, he played in local bands for eight years and then moved to Florida. There he played in and recorded an album with Chuck & John and the News, a local bar band from Bradenton, Florida, during the early 1980s. In 1984, he played drums for Dickey Betts and Chuck Leavell. Abts recorded '' Pattern Disruptive'' with the Dickey Betts Band in 1988 which also included guitarist/vocalist Warren Haynes. Andy Hess
Andy Hess (born December 4, 1966) is an American bassist and former member of Gov't Mule, having joined the band in 2003. Previously, he was The Black Crowes' bassist from February 2001 until their hiatus early the following year. He has also played in Joan Osborne's band and has done session work for artists including David Byrne (musician), David Byrne and Tina Turner. Hess is currently touring with Steve Kimock.
