Mizo Literature
Mizo literature is the literature written in Mizo ṭawng, the principal language of the Mizo peoples, which has both written and oral traditions. It has undergone a considerable change in the 20th century. The language developed mainly from the Lushai language, with significant influence from Pawi language, Paite language and Hmar language, especially at the literary level. All Mizo languages such as Pawi language, Paite language etc. remained unwritten until the beginning of the twentieth century. However, there was unwritten secular literature in the form of folktales, war chants etc. passed down from one generation to another. And there was rich religious literature in the form of sacerdotal chants. These are the chants used by the two types of priests, namely '' Bawlpu'' and ''Sadâwt''. Rokunga
Rokunga (20 February 1914 – 12 July 1969) was a traditional writer and composer from Mizoram, India. Musical compositions He started composing songs in 1934. He is most well known for composing patriotic songs, traditional festive and Christmas songs. His remain the "most cherished" patriotic songs among the Mizo people. Lalthlamuong Keivom
Lalthlamuong Keivom (15 July 1939 – 28 November 2021) was an Indian diplomat, writer and composer of Mizo literature and Hmar literature. Keivom was nicknamed Zoram Khawvel Pa after his treatise ''Zoram Khawvel'' and for his contribution towards the integration of Zo people. Career Lalthlamuong Keivom started his career as a teacher in Manipur in 1963, he later joined Sielmat Christian College, Lamka (1966–67) after which he was with the Indian Revenue Service from 1967 to 1970. In 1970 he joined the Indian Foreign Service. During his service period as an IFS Officer he was posted in different countries: Nairobi, Kenya (1976–80); Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (1980–83); Wellington, New Zealand (1983–85); Rangoon, Burma (1986–90); Milan, Italy (1990–93); Male, Maldives (1994–97). Lalzuia Colney
Lalzuia Colney is an Indian academic and writer of Mizo literature. Career An alumnus of the Government Champhai College, he is a teacher at KVM High School, Mizoram. He has written several books and has contributed chapters to books published by others. Some of his books are prescribed texts for academic studies in Mizoram as well as for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) examinations. Laltluangliana Khiangte
Laltluangliana Khiangte is a Mizo academic, playwright and poet of Mizo literature. He was the principal of the Serampore College and a former professor at Pachhunga University College and the North Eastern Hill University. He is presently serving as the senior most professor at the Department of Mizo at Mizoram University. He is a recipient of the Pu Buanga Award, the highest literary award of the Mizo Academy of Letters. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2006, for his contributions to Indian literature. Nuchhungi Renthlei
Nuchhungi Renthlei (1 January 1914 – 1 January 2002) was an Indian poet, singer and school teacher, known for her poems written in Mizo language. She was the founder of ''Girls' Auxiliary'', an organization for women's rights, which she founded in 1939. The Government of India awarded her the fourth highest civilian honour of Padma Shri in 1986. Biography Nuchhungi Renthlei was born on the New Year day of 1914 to Hmingliana at Aizawl, in the northeast Indian state of Mizoram, She did her schooling at the Baptist Missionary Society, at Langlui, Mizoram and started writing at a young age. She continued her writing during her career as a teacher and was also a noted singer during her early years. She is credited with several poems, children's songs and stories and ran a dance school to teach traditional dances to children. She was married to R. Pastor Saikhuma
A pastor (abbreviated as "Pr" or "Ptr" , or "Ps" ) is the leader of a Christian congregation who also gives advice and counsel to people from the community or congregation. In Lutheranism, Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Oriental Orthodoxy and Anglicanism, pastors are always ordained. In Methodism, pastors may be either licensed or ordained. Zirsangzela Hnamte
Zirsangzela Hnamte (1 December 1952 - 15 October 2002) was a writer of Mizo literature. He started composing at 17. He composed over 75 songs. Many of his songs are now used as study material in high school and colleges of Mizoram. Personal Hnamte was born in Sialsuk in 1952 and was the eldest among 8 siblings. He is said to be introverted.
