Aleksey Valentinovich Mitrofanov (russian: Алексе́й Валенти́нович Митрофа́нов, also transliterated as Alexei Mitrofanov; born 16 March 1962) is a Russian politician and deputy of the State Duma of Russia from the A Just Russia party. He has been Deputy Chairman of the State Duma's Committee on Credit Organizations and Financial Markets and a member of the LDPR Supreme Council. Career Mitrofanov ran for mayor of Moscow in 1999 and again in 2003, unsuccessfully both times. He served in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Soviet Union. He holds degrees in international relations from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and from the USA-Canada Institute of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. Leopold Mitrofanov
Leopold Adamovich Mitrofanov (July 2, 1932November 26, 1992) was a Russian chess composer, an International Judge of Chess Composition (awarded 1971) and an International Master of Chess Composition (awarded 1980). He was born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) and, by profession, was a chemical engineer. Beginning in the 1950s, Mitrofanov published over 300 endgame studies, 40 of which were awarded first prizes in competitions. Between 1955 and 1992, he participated in the finals of eight USSR Championships for chess composition. In FIDE competitions, he and Vladimir Korolkov were jointly awarded 3 gold medals. Mitrofanov composed a number of studies jointly with grandmaster Alexander Beliavsky. In 1967, Mitrofanov's most celebrated chess study was awarded first prize from 250 entries to a tournament commemorating the twelfth-century Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli. With his skating partner, Audrey Lu, he is the 2022 Four Continents champion, 2021 CS Golden Spin of Zagreb champion, 2018 CS U.S. International Classic silver medalist, and 2022 U.S. national bronze medalist. Personal life Mitrofanov was born on June 12, 1997, in Madison, Wisconsin. He is the eldest of two children born to Yelena, a real estate agent, and Gennadiy, a natural gas and oil marketer. Vasily Andreyevich Mitrofanov (; – 25 August 1970) was a Soviet Army lieutenant general and Hero of the Soviet Union. Mitrofanov joined the Red Army during the Russian Civil War and served as a staff clerk. After graduating from a commanders' school, he held staff positions during the 1920s and early 1930s in Central Asia before transferring to the emerging mechanized forces. During World War II, he served as acting commander of the 12th Tank Corps in late 1942 and early 1943 and as chief of staff of the 3rd Guards Tank Army between 1943 and 1944. He commanded the 7th and 6th Guards Tank Corps in 1944 and 1945 and for his leadership of the latter in the Battle of Berlin was made a Hero of the Soviet Union.
