Missouri State Bears Football
The Missouri State Bears football program is the college football team that represents Missouri State University located in Springfield, Missouri, United States. Missouri State competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and are members of the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The school was known as Southwest Missouri State until 2005 when they changed the name to Missouri State. Missouri State's first football team was fielded in 1909 and the first coach in program history was Walter Langston who went 4–2 in his only season as head coach. Prior to 1923, the team competed as an Independent. From 1923 to 1980, Missouri State were members of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, of which Missouri State was a founding member. Tommy O'Boyle
Thomas Joseph O'Boyle (August 21, 1917 – July 19, 2000) was an American football player, coach, scout, and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Southwest Missouri State College—now known as Missouri State University—from 1947 to 1948 and at Tulane University from 1962 to 1965, compiling a career college football coaching record of 22–37–2. At Southwest Missouri State he was also the school's athletic director. O'Boyle later worked an assistant coach and scout for the Kansas City Chiefs of the American Football League (AFL) and the National Football League (NFL). Dave Steckel (American Football)
Dave Steckel is an American football coach and former player. He was recently the head coach at Missouri State University. Prior to that, he spent 14 seasons on the staff at the University of Missouri. His other coaching stops include Miami University of Ohio, Ball State University, the University of Minnesota, Dickinson College, Lehigh University, the University of Toledo, and Rutgers University. Terry Allen (American Football Coach)
Terry Allen (born June 27, 1957) is an American former college football player and coach. He last coached at Missouri State. He was the head coach at the University of Kansas from 1997 to 2001, where he compiled a 20–33 record. Del Miller (born November 6, 1950) is a former American football coach. He served as the head football coach at Southwest Missouri State University—now known as Missouri State University—from 1995 to 1998, compiling a record of 21–23.
