Missouri Route 118
Route 118 is a highway in Holt County. Its eastern terminus is at U.S. Route 59 in Mound City; its western terminus is at Route 111 about six miles (10 km) west of Mound City. Route description Route 118 begins at an intersection with Route 111 in Holt County, heading east on a two-lane undivided road. The route heads through agricultural areas with some trees, intersecting Route P. The road passes through the community of Bigelow, where it crosses BNSF Railway's Napier Subdivision. Past Bigelow, Route 118 curves northeast through more rural areas. The road reaches Mound City, where it comes to an interchange with I-29. A short distance later, Route 118 comes to its eastern terminus at US 59. Mound City is a city in Holt County, Missouri, United States, centered near the interchange of Interstate 29 and Missouri Route 118. The population was 1,004 at the 2020 census, down from the 1,159 people counted during the previous census. History Mound City was originally called North Point, and under the latter name was platted in 1857. The present name is after mounds near the original town site. A post office called North Point was established in 1855, and the name was changed to Mound City in 1871. Geography Mound City is located in the northwest corner of Missouri at (40.134594, -95.230778), at the southern end of the Loess Hills. It is named for the hills in the area. Holt County, Missouri
Holt County is a county located in the northwestern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 4,223. It's county seat is Oregon. The county was organized February 15, 1841. Originally named Nodaway County, it was soon renamed for David Rice Holt (1803–1840), a Missouri state legislator from Platte County. History ''The History of Holt County, Missouri from the Time of the Platte Purchase through 1916'' and ''The History of Holt and Atchison Counties, Missouri'' (published 1882) are available online. In 1972, the Holt County Historical Society was established. Holt County was impacted by the 2019 Midwestern U.S. floods. About 30,000 acres (12,140 hectares) of the 95,000 acres (38,445 hectares) that flooded in spring 2019 were still underwater in late October. Interstate 29 In Missouri
Interstate 29 (I-29) is a north–south Interstate Highway in the Midwestern United States that begins in Missouri. It travels through the Kansas City and St. Joseph metropolitan areas before exiting the state and entering Iowa. Almost all of I-29 in Missouri lies in an area called the Platte Purchase that was not originally part of Missouri when the state entered the Union in 1821. Route description I-29 begins at I-70 in Kansas City in a concurrency with I-35 and U.S. Route 71 (US 71) at the Downtown Loop. It crosses over the Missouri River via the Bond Bridge. I-29 and I-35 separate in northern Kansas City, with I-29 turning northwest with US 71 running concurrent with it.
