Miramichi Bay (electoral District)
Miramichi Bay-Neguac (french: Baie-de-Miramichi-Neguac) is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. It was formerly known more simply as Miramichi Bay. The riding was created from part of the multi-member Northumberland riding, and was first contested in 1974. At the 2013 boundary adjustment, the riding moved western and inland taking in the northeast parts of the City of Miramichi and rural areas to the north and west of the city. The riding's previous representative in the Legislative Assembly was Carmel Robichaud of the Liberal Party. Roger Duguay, leader of the New Democratic Party from 2007 to 2010, was that party's candidate in Miramichi Bay-Neguac in the 2006 provincial election. New Brunswick Electoral Redistribution, 1973
The 1973 New Brunswick electoral redistribution was the most radical redistribution of electoral districts in the history of New Brunswick, Canada. Under this redistribution, New Brunswick changed from a mixture of multi-member districts and single-member districts to a scheme of only single-member districts, from bloc voting electoral system to first past the post. As the number of members per district had been re-evaluated as recently as 1967, the number of members was not changed, and multi-member districts were simply subdivided to form single-member districts. Prior to the redistribution, New Brunswick had had the longest and deepest experience of multi-member districts of any province in Canada. Réjean Savoie
Réjean Savoie (born September 15, 1952) is a businessman and political figure in New Brunswick. He is the Progressive Conservative Party MLA for Miramichi Bay-Neguac since 2022 in a by-election to replace Lisa Harris, having previously represented Miramichi Bay in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1999 to 2003. He was born in Saint-Wilfred, New Brunswick, the son of Levi Savoie and Exéline Roy. Savoie studied at the Bathurst Technical School and the New Brunswick Community College. He worked as a tractor trailer operator and also owned and operated a restaurant and service station. Savoie served as a member of the school board and as a member of the board of directors for the Neguac Medical Clinic and the l’Hotel-Dieu Hospital in Chatham. The 2014 New Brunswick general election was held on September 22, 2014, to elect 49 members to the 58th New Brunswick Legislative Assembly, the governing house of the province of New Brunswick, Canada. The 2013 redistribution reduced the size of the legislature from 55 seats to 49. 2006 New Brunswick General Election
The 2006 New Brunswick general election was held on September 18, 2006, to elect 55 members to the 56th New Brunswick Legislative Assembly, the governing house of the province of New Brunswick, Canada. The campaign came earlier than expected: the incumbent Premier of New Brunswick, Bernard Lord, had pledged a vote would be held on October 15, 2007 but when the ruling Progressive Conservatives faced a loss of its majority in the legislature, Lord said he did not want to face a minority government and, moreover, feared that a by-election could tip the balance of power to the opposition Liberals. The campaign was hard-fought with pundits and pollsters calling it too close to call throughout the five-week campaign. In the end, it was won by the Liberals led by Shawn Graham. Roger Duguay
Roger Duguay is a former Canadian politician and Roman Catholic priest. He sought election to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick unsuccessfully on four occasions as a representative of the New Brunswick New Democratic Party (NDP). He served as the New Brunswick NDP's leader from 2007 to 2010. Political career Duguay has been a candidate for the NB New Democratic Party on three previous occasions, dating back to the 1991 election. In 1999, he ran in the riding of Centre-Péninsule. As a result, he was suspended from his position as a pastor with the Catholic Church for breaking the Diocese's policy on political activity. Although he was reinstated after the election, he later left the church voluntarily in order to continue his political career.
