Off Centaur Publications was the first "commercial" filk label. It was founded in 1980 by Teri Lee, Jordin Kare, and Catherine Cook. For a short time, Off Centaur produced high quality recordings of some of filk's best performers, and changed the course of filk music. Like some other filk labels the name was a pun, in this case upon the idiom "off center" meaning eccentric, odd, or unusual -- all of which could be considered legitimate characterizations of filk music. (Other filk labels have included Wail Songs, Unlikely Publications, and Random Factors, illustrating the style of self-deprecating humor common among these publishers.) Releases from this label are very difficult to find. At an Interfilk auction at FilKONtario, a copy of '' Horse-Tamer's Daughter'' was sold for CA$400.00. Worldcon
Worldcon, or more formally the World Science Fiction Convention, the annual convention of the World Science Fiction Society (WSFS), is a science fiction convention. It has been held each year since 1939 (except for the years 1942 to 1945, during World War II). Kathy Mar
Kathy Mar (; from Chinese ' by analogy with non-rhotic accents) is an American filk singer. Career Mar worked as a professional folk singer and street performer in Denver, Colorado for many years before discovering filk. Her first recordings were for Off Centaur Publications (''Songbird, On a Bright Wind, Bamboo Wind'') and she went on to record two albums with Thor Records (''Plus Ça Change, Plus C'est La Même Chose'') which have recently been re-released as a double CD. She also recorded an album for Dandelion Digital (''Made by Magic'') with British songwriter Zander Nyrond, one of the first filk CDs ever produced. Her album of filk and folk covers on Prometheus (''My Favorite Sings'') was her most successful release. Michael Longcor
Michael Longcor is a folk and filk singer. His songs span a range of topics including military history, Indiana history, and humor. He has won six Pegasus Awards and has been nominated for six others. His music has appeared on Dr. Demento and on NPR's '' Folksong Festival'', and has provided the background for a BBC documentary on Rudyard Kipling. He is a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, in which he is known as Moonwulf Starkaaderson. As a member of the SCA, he has been king of the Middle Kingdom twice and served as baron of the Barony of Rivenstar from its foundation until April 2016.
