Minnesota Golden Gophers
The Minnesota Golden Gophers (commonly shortened to Gophers) are the college sports teams of the University of Minnesota. The university fields a total of 25 (12 men's, 13 women's) teams in both men's and women's sports and competes in the Big Ten Conference. The Gophers women's ice hockey team is a six-time NCAA champion and seven-time national champion. In women's ice hockey, the Gophers belong to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. The annual NCAA women's ice hockey tournament—officially known as the National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey Championship—is a college ice hockey tournament held in the United States by the National Collegiate Athletic Association to determine the top women's team in the NCAA. 2023 NCAA National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey Tournament
The 2023 NCAA National Collegiate women's ice hockey tournament was a single-elimination tournament by eleven schools to determine the national champion of women's NCAA Division I college ice hockey. This is the second year the tournament features an expanded field of 11 teams. The first round and quarterfinals were played on the campuses of seeded teams on March 9 and 11, 2023, while the Frozen Four was played on March 17 and 19, 2023 at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, Minnesota. The Wisconsin Badgers defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes 1–0 to win their 7th national championship. Wisconsin Badgers Women's Ice Hockey
The Wisconsin Badgers women's ice hockey team is the hockey team that represents the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin. History On October 8, 1999, the Bulldogs played the Wisconsin Badgers in the first ever Women's WCHA conference game at the Kohl Center in Madison, WI. It was the highest attended game of the season (3,892) and resulted in an 8–1 defeat of the Badgers. In 2006, the Wisconsin Badgers became the first team outside the state of Minnesota to win the Women's Frozen Four championship. The Badgers defeated the defending champions, the Minnesota Golden Gophers, by a score of 3–0 at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Minnesota Golden Gophers women's ice hockey team plays for the University of Minnesota at the Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis. The team is one of the members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in Division I. The 2021 Big Ten Men's Ice Hockey Tournament was the eighth tournament in conference history. It was played between March 14 and March 16, 2021, at Compton Family Ice Arena in Notre Dame, Indiana. By winning the tournament, Minnesota earned the Big Ten's automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament. Format All seven Big Ten teams will participate in the tournament, which will return to a single-elimination format for the first time since 2017.
