Minnesota Golden Gophers Wrestling
The Minnesota Golden Gophers are a Division I college wrestling team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They are a member of the Big Ten Conference and NCAA. Wrestling began at the University of Minnesota in 1910, but the first formal dual meet was not until 1921 when coach Frank Gilman led the team to a victory over Wisconsin. The Gophers have won the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships team title three times, in 2001, 2002, and 2007. J Robinson served as head coach for the team for thirty years, leading the Golden Gophers to three national championships until he was fired in 2016 over his handling of a prescription drug scandal involving his wrestlers. Butch Levy
Leonard Bernard "Butch / Len" Levy (February 19, 1921 – February 9, 1999) was an American professional athlete. The 1941 NCAA heavyweight wrestling champion and 1942 Amateur Athletic Union, AAU champion, he was selected by the Cleveland Rams of the National Football League (NFL) in the fourth round of the 1942 NFL Draft. He instead enlisted in the United States Navy and played for one of that branch's organized military service teams, the Great Lakes Navy Bluejackets football, Great Lakes Bluejackets. Following his discharge from the Navy, Levy played two seasons for the NFL's Rams, winning the 1945 NFL Championship Game, NFL Championship in 1945. He then played for the Los Angeles Dons of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) from 1947 to 1948, earning First-team All-AAFC honors in the latter year — his final season of professional football. Garrett Lowney
Steven Garrett Lowney (born October 3, 1979 in Appleton, Wisconsin) is an American former Greco-Roman Olympic wrestler. Lowney wrestled for the University of Minnesota under coach J Robinson. While at the University of Minnesota, he received his B.A. in Marketing at the Carlson School of Management, won a bronze medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, and ran a youth instruction company to support his way through college. Gordy Morgan
Gordy Morgan (born August 12, 1966) is an American former wrestler. He wrestled in the 74kg weight class at the 1996 Olympics, finishing ninth, and was a 1990 and 1993–95 world team member. He was a 3-time National Greco-Roman champion (1991, 1993, 1994). In NCAA competition, he was the 1989 Big Ten champion in the 158 pound class and an NCAA All-American. He was also a 1985 Minnesota State High School champion in the 155 pound class. Brandon Paulson
Brandon Douglas Paulson (born October 22, 1973) is a former Olympic Greco-Roman wrestler and current wrestling coach. Paulson was born in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, and is a 1992 graduate of Anoka High School. At Anoka High, Paulson was a three time state champion in his weight class and was named Mr. Minnesota Wrestling in his senior year after finishing with a career record of 155-12-1. Paulson was the first high school wrestler to earn a spot on the U.S. National Senior team when he qualified for the 1991–1992 team. In 1993 he was a Junior World Silver Medalist. James Martinez (wrestler)
James "Jim" Martinez (born November 14, 1958) is an American wrestler. He was born in Osseo, Minnesota. He was the Olympic bronze medalist in Greco-Roman wrestling in 1984. Martinez did professional wrestling in Minnesota for the American Wrestling Association in 1984. He also won a bronze medal in the 1985 World Championships. Jim wrestled for the University of Minnesota, where he was a Big Ten Champion and NCAA Division I All-American. Gable Steveson (born May 31, 2000) is an American professional wrestler and retired freestyle and folkstyle wrestler. He is currently signed to WWE, where he was appointed to the Raw brand under his real name, but has yet to have his debut match. Minnesota Golden Gophers Cole Konrad (born April 2, 1984) is an American retired mixed martial arts fighter. Konrad won a gold medal at the 2005 Pan-American Championships. He won the NCAA wrestling championships in 2006 and 2007 at 285 pounds and finished third at the 2006 World University Championships at 120 kilograms.
