Brasília (; ) is the federal capital of Brazil and seat of government of the Federal District. The city is located at the top of the Brazilian highlands in the country's Central-West region. It was founded by President Juscelino Kubitschek on 21 April 1960, to serve as the new national capital. Brasília is estimated to be Brazil's third-most populous city. Among major Latin American cities, it has the highest GDP per capita. Simone Nassar Tebet (; born 27 February 1970) is a Brazilian academic, lawyer, and politician. A member of the Federal Senate for Mato Grosso do Sul since 2015, she was previously mayor of Três Lagoas from 2005 to 2010. She is a member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party, of which she was the leader in the Senate from 2018 to 2019. Tebet ran for President of the Senate in 2021 against Rodrigo Pacheco, who was backed by both President Jair Bolsonaro and former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's Workers' Party.
