The Ministry of Maritime Affairs ( ur, ), previously known as the Ministry of Ports and Shipping, is a Federal Ministry of the Government of Pakistan. The current Minister for Maritime Affairs is Faisal Subzwari and the current Federal Secretary for Maritime Affairs is Mathar Niaz Rana. The Pakistan Islands Development Authority ( ur, ); abbreviated as PIDA) is an agency of federal government of Pakistan responsible for Pakistan Islands located in Arabian Sea along with the Sindh and Balochistan coastal belt. A master mariner is a licensed mariner who holds the highest grade of seafarer qualification; namely, an unlimited master's license. Such a license is labelled ''unlimited'' because it has no limits on the tonnage, power, or geographic location of the vessel that the holder of the license is allowed to serve upon. Gwadar Port
The Gwadar Port ( ur, ) is situated on the Arabian Sea at Gwadar in Balochistan province of Pakistan and is under the administrative control of the Maritime Secretary of Pakistan and operational control of the China Overseas Port Holding Company. The port features prominently in the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) plan, and is considered to be a link between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Maritime Silk Road projects. It is about southwest of Turbat, and to the east of Chabahar Port ( Sistan and Balochistan Province in Iran). Gwadar's potential to be a deep water sea port was first noted in 1954, while the city was still under Omani sovereignty. The Pakistan Merchant Shipping Ordinance 2001 has replaced the Merchant Shipping Act of 1923. This replacement was made in 2001 to deal with the constantly changing and modern shipping industry.
