Georgetown, Guyana
Georgetown is the capital (political), capital and largest city of Guyana. It is situated in Demerara-Mahaica, region 4, on the Atlantic Ocean coast, at the mouth of the Demerara River. It is nicknamed the "Garden City of the Caribbean." It is the retail, administrative, and financial services centre of the country, and the city accounts for a large portion of Guyana's GDP. Bharrat Jagdeo
Bharrat Jagdeo (born 23 January 1964) is a Guyanese politician who has been serving as Vice President of Guyana since 2020, in the administration of President Irfaan Ali. He had previously also held the office from 1997 until 1999, during the presidency of Janet Jagan. Jagdeo subsequently served as the President of Guyana from 11 August 1999 to 3 December 2011. He also holds a number of global leadership positions in the areas of sustainable development, green growth and climate change. Asgar Ally
Asgar Ally is a former Guyanese politician. He served as Minister of Finance from 1992 to 1995. He was deputy governor of the Bank of Jamaica prior to returning to Guyana to serve as minister of finance. He resigned as minister of finance in May 1995 over "political and policy differences" with President Jagan. Hugh Desmond Hoyte (9 March 1929 – 22 December 2002) was a Guyanese politician who served as Prime Minister of Guyana from 1984 to 1985 and President of Guyana from 1985 until 1992. Personal Life and Education Hoyte was born on 9 March 1929 in Georgetown, which was the capital of British Guiana (as it was then called). He was educated at St Barnabas Anglican School and Progressive High School, then entered public service as a teacher in Guyana and Grenada. While he was working, Hoyte earned an external B.A. from the University of London in 1950. In 1959, he went to the UK to pass his bar exams at the Middle Temple and earn an LL.B. Ashni Kumar Singh is a Guyanese politician. He serves as Minister of Finance . He also served in this role from September 2006 to May 2015. Peter Stanislaus D'Aguiar ( 1912 – 30 March 1989) was a Guyanese businessman, conservative politician, and minister of finance from 1964 to 1967. Business career In 1934, following the death of his father, D'Aguiar became the managing director of the family business, D'Aguiar Bros. Ltd. The Guyanese business, which was involved in the production of rum and soft drinks, became the first in South America to bottle Pepsi-Cola in 1942. D'aguiar created Banks Breweries Ltd. in 1955, which in contrast to the family business was a public company.
