The Ministry of Defence of Artsakh (Armenia: Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի Հանրապետության պաշտպանության նախարարություն) is a government agency of the unrecognized Republic of Artsakh. It is the executive body in implementing defense policies of the Artsakh Defense Army. The current Minister of Defense is Lieutenant General Kamo Vardanyan. History On 26 March 1992, the Defense Committee under the NKR Council of Ministers was established. On the initiative and under the direct leadership of the NKR Defense Committee, a number of very important and urgent events were launched during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. The Band of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia is the central military band of the Armed Forces of Armenia. It is currently part of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, Military Band Division of the General Staff of the armed forces. Overview History On 28 January 1992, by order of the Minister of Defense Vazgen Sargsyan, the 1st Airborne Regiment was formed, which also included the first military band in Armenia. On 14 September of that year, Sargsyan created the Military Band Service of the Ministry of Defense, which was removed from the Ministry of Defense's structure and transferred to the General Staff on 25 January 1996. The Armed Forces of Armenia ( hy, Հայաստանի զինված ուժեր, Hayastani zinvats uzher), sometimes referred to as the Armenian Army ( hy, Հայկական Բանակ, Haykakan Banak), is the national military of Armenia. Mikael Alberti Arzumanyan ( hy, Միքայել Ալբերտի Արզումանյան; born 12 June 1973) is a Lieutenant General from the Republic of Artsakh, who formerly served as the Commander of the Artsakh Defence Army and Minister of Defence. He was born on 12 June 1973 in Stepanakert in the Nagorno Karabakh Autonomous Oblast. From 1991 to 1992, during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, he was a volunteer in the Company of Bekor Ashot, taking part in the battles for Füzuli, Martakert, Askeran and Kelbajar. Jalal Harutyunyan
Jalal Anatolii Harutyunyan ( hy, Ջալալ Անատոլիի Հարությունյան; born 11 November 1974) is an Armenian general from the Republic of Artsakh who formerly served as Commander of the Artsakh Defense Army and Minister of Defense of Artsakh. He commanded the Artsakh Defense Army during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War until his dismissal on 27 October 2020 after being wounded in action. Karen Abrahamyan (Armenian: Կարեն_Աբրահամյան; born 4 December 1966) is a politician and general, who is the former Minister of Defence of Artsakh. Biography He was born in the village of Khcaberd of the Hadrut Province of the Azerbaijan SSR. It was there where he attended the M. Manvelyan Secondary School, of which he graduated from in 1984. Levon Mnatsakanyan (Armenian:Լեւոն Մնացականյան; born 14 September 1965) is a politician, and a former Minister of Defence of Artsakh. Biography He was born in Stepanakert in 1965 to an Armenian family. Mnatsakanyan began his military service in 1983 when he moved to the Belarusian SSR to work in the Soviet Army's Belarusian Military District. Movses Hranti Hakobyan ( hy, Մովսես Հրանտի Հակոբյան; born 4 February 1965) is a former senior Armenian military official and the former commander of NKR Defense Army and former Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces. Seyran Musheghi Ohanyan ( hy, Սեյրան Մուշեղի Օհանյան; born 1 July 1962) is an Armenian general and politician currently serving as a deputy in the National Assembly of Armenia. Samvel Andraniki Babayan ( hy, Սամվել Անդրանիկի Բաբայան; born 5 March 1965) is an Armenian military commander and politician from Nagorno-Karabakh. He was one of the founders and main commanders of the Artsakh Defence Army during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War and became a hero among Armenians for the military victories achieved under his command. Following the war, he served as the Defense Minister of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic from 1994 to 2000.
